Adam Lambert

My god how does a talent like that go undiscovered for so long?

He just totally out did himself last night, earning the first standing ovation Simon Cowell has ever given in 8 seasons of AI.

I feel bad for the people that are "too hip" to watch the show this year....they just don't know what they're denying themselves.

TerryH 04-08-2009 10:37 AM

You sound like my wife. I come here to get away from my wife.

... well, not really. ;) Simon? Wasn't he a chipmunk before this gig?

onewhippedpuppy 04-08-2009 10:39 AM

He's good, but something about him bugs the crap out of me. Maybe it's the makeup and overall fruity look?

m21sniper 04-08-2009 10:44 AM

There were people who didn't like Freddie Mercury either. It baffles me, but it's true.

There's a site that calculates the busy signal for each contestant and has been 97% accurate to date. It showed Lambert garnering such a huge % of the votes last night that the other 7 contestants all scored low enough with the 3% margin of error that they are all projected to be in the bottom 3.

Total domination.

Here's last night's performance, no copyright infringement intended:

You don't like music?

legion 04-08-2009 10:54 AM

Who?

What?

Why are people discussing that competitive jackass who tries to dominate the "star in a reasonably priced car" segment on Top Gear?

Don Plumley 04-08-2009 10:58 AM

Idol is my guilty pleasure. I love the idea that someone's life completely changes where they get the opportunity to demonstrate their talent. I think of guys like Chris Daughtry that was a service advisor at a car dealership, and now gets to tour the world singing. David Cook, an undiscovered talent, now a global star. That's so cool

My wife/daughter love Adam - my daughter is a huge broadway fan and Adam was on Wicked (which btw makes him a pro in my book); he is an amazing talent. My daughter downloaded his song last night just as he finished.

Contrary. Idol is just the Gong Show on steroids. The talent doesn't float til months into the season.

And that's the genius of it.

Adam Lambert has been el fuego since the first week.

And he just keeps getting better and better. I honestly don't even know how he can top yesterday's performance.

There are actually adult men who admit to watching american idol? Yikes!

Yeh, and Golf isn't manly enough for some of them, hard to understand.
Is watching metro sexual tv a sport?

So you're in denial then?

Ray Liotta was at the show last night. You'd have to look pretty far and wide to find a more manly type man than Ray Liotta.

So in your world listening to music and watching live performances is metrosexual?

Interesting.

I have always 'worshipped' at the altar of the all time great rock vocalists.

Plant, Mercury Roth, Tyler, Rose....and now Lambert.

He's that good.

All i can say is, thank you god.

Rim shot.

I do not watch the show and intentionally stay outside as long as possible because my wife and daughters watch. However, I do make a point of watching Adam sing because that dude can rock.

And the intro interview with his parents was dang funny - his mom talking about how he as a youngster was into costumes and dressing up and his dad says, "Sports . . not so much." in a way that any dad could relate to.

I haven't heard a near-falsetto voice from a white guy since, since Barry Gibb or... Michael Jackson.

The real guys:
Farinelli:

.... or Jaroussky

m21sniper 04-08-2009 01:38 PM

He reminds me of a mix between Plant/Mercury/Tyler.

I don't know exactly what makes a superstar a superstar, but when you see one it's obvious.

Yeah what a guy he played the fool in Roadhogs and betrayed his "friends" in Goodfella's what a tough guy. Oh and he sucked in La Linea too :D

Do like most of the Queen songs does that make me gay ?

Heel n Toe 04-08-2009 01:59 PM

I haven't been watching it this year, but Lambert's definitely extremely talented. "Mad World" is the only thing I've heard him sing... thanks for posting the link, Sniper.

Don't mean to hijack, but for anyone who doesn't believe you can catch some amazing talent on a show like this, the gold standard for me has been Jordis Unga doing Baba O'Riley on Rock Star INXS... turn this up and get your ears pinned back... soulful, killer phrasing, and just raw power:
