Recommend romantic restaurant in Portland OR. area

Hey all... I know this is a bit of a stretch but I know we have some PNW folks here...

Long story short I'm flying up to Portland to spend a few days with friends... However I am flying in a day early (Friday) to have dinner with a special lady.

Anyone able to recommend a quite romantic restaurant where we can have dinner and talk for an hour or three without being disturbed?

Thanks in advance,

Scott

We stayed and ate at the Fairmont a few weeks ago and it was splendid. You could easily spend a few hours there. Very civilized. And they have rooms.

My apologies for the bad lighting in these pics.

The Benson is also nice, if you're looking for a hotel restaurant. Portland City Grill can get noisy and packed, but it's hard to beat the view (30th Floor). Jakes is also nice, especially if you like seafood. If you're a steak man, Morton's is one of the best in town.

What exactly do you want?

I live in the Portland Metro area and have for 42+ years. My wife and I like a small Italian place on the inner East side - Il Piatto. Reasonable prices. Good food. Nice atmosphere. Probably my top pick as "romantic."

Great food but loud? Ginos. It is the place where chefs go on their day off. It is in Sellwood on Tacoma and 13th. Get the Grandma Jean's pasta with a Ceasar salad. You will thank me!

Best restaurant in town? Winterbourne. Local seafood. I haven't been but I believe they have only 3 or 4 tables. Everyone I have sent has raved about it. Not cheap. Not sure if they are still in business, I have not heard about them for a while.

As I have small children, I don't get out much. There are tons of great places in Portland. You might check out Willamette Week (I am sure it is online) for some recommendations as well. Another paper is the Oregonian.

Have fun. Try the local beer and wine, it can be great.

We also like Jakes Seafood.

And then there's Salty's on the river, out by the airport. Slightly stodgy seafood, but nice tables with views of the river and aircraft landing just above your head.

But my favorite place in Portland is this:

Thanks everyone...

I think I had a single malt at the Fairmont last time there.

The local boys will be dragging me on many pub craws so I will be sampling many of the fine local brews.

Friends also took me to the Portland city grill last time... can't beat the view... we just had drinks.

I will check out some of the other suggestions... I will be walking around town Sunday afternoon with the lady in question so may check one of them out for lunch.

My friends actually live in Beaverton... and I am staying in the embassy suites... next to that Cheesecake Factory... I think the lady likes the place so I will probably get drug into it at some point.

And thanks Todd but the hotel has free breakfast.

I got laid every single time I took a young lady to Jake's, I don't know that there was any genuine connection

Scott - there are 2 Jakes restaurants (owned by the same people), you want the Jake's Famous Crawfish on the corner of SW 12th and SW Stark.

We actually liked them both.

One specializes in meat and the other in steaks.

And Tobra is right...

Jake's Grill isn't nearly as nice and doesn't have the p*ssy factor that their Crawfish restaurant does. If you want steak, go to Morton's or El Gaucho. El Gaucho will probably get you laid quicker than any of the above mentioned restaurants, especially if she's a Blazer's fan.
