Columbine 10 years later

I just read a article on that day at Columbine High 10 years ago. Does anyone know whatever happened to Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold parents? Were they ever sued for wrongful death or brought up on charges themselves?

I worked for a guy 2 or 3 years ago, (director), whose dad was the police chief of Golden, CO when Columbine went down.

That PD did NOT cover itself in glory during that horrid episode.

Did he get booted or resign?

This is a decent article, http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2009-04-13-columbine-myths_N.htm. It appears that during that time the media and law enforcement blew a bunch of smoke up our asses.

I was shocked to learn that.

Not really sure. (Either he did not say or I can't remember). I really don't know many details about the whole thing, other than the broad strokes.

The police stood outside while the shooting was going on and never attempted to intervene until long after the two scumbags inside had blown themselves away IIRC.

I have read recently that police tactics have changed as a result of this and the Va Tech shootings. The policy used to be that the first officers would wait until SWAT was called and not enter the building. Now the first officers are to form a team and enter and take out the shooter ASAP. The worked recently at a shooting in NC when the first cop in actually took the shooter out and saved lives.

Yeah, i agree with the policy 100%

It is more risky for the police, but the police are paid to take those risks.

There was a one-hour program on the History Channel last night called "Zero Hour." It was essentially a documentary, but they also had some very well done dramatization based on results of police investigations and forensics. It was chilling.

There was also some home video footage shot by Harris and Klebold of themselves in the year leading up to it... which was how long they planned it. It was not about revenge for their being picked on and ostracized... they were just two very screwed up guys.

And yes, the police sat on their butts and should have gone in. A couple of parents of one of the kids who was killed said so on camera too... (something like) "the police talk about how many kids they saved, but the kids who got out of their saved themselves by running out of the building. Those cops stayed outside by their cruisers while they listened to the gunshots as our kids were murdered in there."

If the show runs again, see it.

Last suit settled in 2003. There was an earlier settlement in another suit for $1.6M.

I was wrong... "Zero Hour" is a series that runs on Discovery, not History... so, for anyone who was interested in seeing the one on Columbine, watch your listings for a rerun.

http://www.discoverychannel.co.uk/zerohour/series1/columbine_high_school_shooting/index.shtml

There seem to be some links here where you can watch it online, but I haven't checked any of 'em out:
http://video.google.com/videosearch?hl=en&q=zero+hour+columbine&oe=UTF-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wv&ei=Cl7vSZPWNseDtgfv-cnRDw&oi=property_suggestions&resnum=0&ct=property-revision&cd=1#

Looks like "Zero hour columbine 1" and "2" and "3" would cover it.

Not everyplace. And not during the recent event in Binghamton, NY. It took hours for the cops to go inside and how many victims bled to death during that time?

Another incident a few years ago in Up-state New York was a trooper shot by a guy (.38 into a bullet proof vest) who had stolen a friends car.

The local troopers did not pursue the guy into the neighborhood where he had fled. By the time the SWAT guys showed up (hours) the guy had broken into a house and armed himself with a 30-06. It ended badly.
