Question for gun/Glock buffs....did Glock ever make

...an all composite pistol? I.e., no metal parts including slide and barrel?

As far as I know no gun manufacturer has made any commercially-available all composite pistol.

I have seen some single-shot from European manufacturers (including the cartridge and bullet being composite)

Gun 'regulators' go to this extreme --> http://www.imfdb.org/index.php?title=Composite_Pistol

No, they did not, at least no production or publicly displayed prototype, don't know what skunkworks are tried out in the secret Batcave.

Not that I know of, though it was a popular rumor in the 80's/90's that all Glocks were all composite.

Didn't think so...settling a barroom argument with some flake from Kailfornia.

I remember all the hysteria about Glocks in the 80's.

Thanks, guys....

I find it hard to believe one could make a barrel and mainspring of anything but metal, and have a design that remotely resembles a production Glock pistol. Can it be done? I'm sure, but you would need to design an entirely different animal.

Maybe you could make a ceramic barrel(maybe), but not the springs.

Besides, there is 17 rounds of metal 9mm ammunition in a glock. I mean, duh...

As far as I know, steel is the only material suitable for a barrel.

Even if it could be done, your $500 Glock would soon become a $3,000 Glock.

I guess what I'm saying is that the price of such a product would severely limit its market.

Were you in the bar last night? LOL

That is exactly the discussion that came up...a patron who is from Cali but here doing contract work made the statement he bought one of the first Glock's in the '80's and it was a total composite weapon and as such it cost him $3800. He went on about the ceramic barrel and composite springs, yadadadadada.

He's a nice guy and fairly bright...not one to just spout off BS. We all came to the conclusion that he may have in fact paid $3800 for his gun but was sold a bill of goods. And told him such.

Of course he has long since sold the gun so its no longer available for us to inspect.

And all you would have needed was a magnet to debunk his $3,800 Glock.

Didn't Bruce Willis mention such a gun in Die Hard II, telling Dennis Franz this cop had a gun that cost more than a cop made in a month?

Yeah...when I was googling the topic the source of the all composite, xray proof Glock myth was sometimes attribiuted to that movie.

I did find some interesting topics on all composite pistols and even composite non-metal ammo that was developed by the CIA (?) but they were one shot and then destroyed weapons. Apparently they were disguised components that could be assembled. But no evidence of an all synthetic gun that could be used repeatedly.

any teenager can make a zip gun. pipe barrel, nail firing pin, rubber band spring. i imagine ceramics and carbon fibre materials could be used now. as long as it's single use/throw away, the only thing i can't see being made with alternative materials is the percussion cap part of the bullet.

I don't see why one couldn't make a completely non-metal repeating pistol.

There's been work on ceramic lined gun barrels, it is quite feasible. To reinforce barrel/chamber for firing pressure, there are extremely strong plastics. Springs could be plastic, rubber, or even air/gas springs. Would need custom ammunition of course, caseless or plastic like a shotgun shell.

But what is the point? Airport security systems see all dense things, not merely metal, and don't need a gun to hijack a plane.
