Spoiled Teens - Am I Just Getting Old?
Somebody tell me if I'm out of line here. Today I met my parents for lunch at a Quiznos near Wichita's premier private school. As in, no way I could afford to send my kids there (not that I want to). Obviously we showed up at school lunch time because there was a constant stream of kids through the store. Seen with kids driving just over one lunch period:
C7 Z06 Corvette with carbon-fiber front splitter and mean sounding exhaust Lexus ISF Toyota FJ Cruiser with aftermarket wheels, ARB bumper and winch Brand new Civics, nearly new BMWs and Mercedes products Seriously, WTF? Especially the first two. Who would buy their HIGH SCHOOL age kid a 400+ HP car? Or am I just grumpy that I can't even afford an ARB bumper for my Land Cruiser? |
what they have in "quality", you make up for in "quantity" heheh.
get off the lawn! |
My first transportation was a 65 Chevy Van and everyone else in the 70's had crap too! I don't know whats going on here? Now my Son does drive MY Carrera to school on special days but everyone knows its not his, he has a 98 GTI

You old??? HAAHAHAHHA!
Try again in 10 years or so. |
I had a '79 Chevy truck. Too bad it was 1996. We called it the *****mobile. It had a huge hole in the seat that I covered with a block of foam from Wal-Mart and a seatcover, and more rust than steel. Fortunately it also had a rebuilt 350 with a 4 bbl and a 4.11 rear end, burnouts all day baby! I spend a lot of quality time running over stuff in that truck.:D

Graduated from a HS like that. One girls BMW had vanity plates THX MOM.
The lucky ones only trashed the cars within a couple of years. The others crippled or killed themselves. My parents could have bought me nice ride but in our family we worked for what we wanted, no Free rides pardon the pun. Both my brother and I bought our first cars before we had learners permits. Mine was a FIAT 124 Spider. POS never ran right but always ran. I don't think you appreciate things as much when you have not had to work for them. |
I am always surrounded by kids driving BMW, Mercedes, other expensive cars, I used to think they were driving mommy's car but now I just believe they are driving the car mommy bought for them.
I have talked to business people around here about who they hire, mostly Mexicans, they said the kids around here don't work, mommy and daddy make too much money, these kids graduate from college before they have their first ever job. |
Why so surprised Matt. You've been on the BMW boards. 2/3 of the posters there are under the age of 25 with lots of them still in high school.

who knows..
in a few years one them could be 'shopping' on Craig's list... some classmates will be 'working' there.. Rika |
There is a public high school a few miles from my house. The student parking lot is full of unbelievable nice rides. The teachers have much cheaper cars.
My 1st car was a 32 hp 1960 VW bug. My dad gave me a interest free loan, but I had to pay for it. I had to pay for 100% of the operational cost. |
the real problem is that those kids will have a hard time in later life from being spoiled

Either the kid b!tched and moaned for the ride he/she wanted until the parent gave in, or all the kid had to do was ask nicely and the parent gave it to 'em... either out of some kind of guilt, or to try to keep up with the Jones' kid. Either way, it's the parents you should be complaining about. |

I read a while back that the biggest hits in the unemployment problem was 20-30 somethings. These people never had a job, mom and dad payed for everything and never worked when in college. When they got out they believed everything was owed them. They didn't have a work ethic, didn't really understand what was expected at work, after all, they went to college and it was owed them. We had some at our work, we didn't miss them when they went away.
