Thanks to Trekkor

Just a public thanks to Trekkor for taking the time to call and advise on a Saltillo tile job I did as a diy project here in Pennsyltucky after the local tile guys acted totally freaked at the prospect.

I love this place-guys that will take a half hour out of a busy day to lend a hand to a complete stranger.

Funny thing about this forum, people are willing to help each other at the drop of a hat, even if they disagree and gripe at each other over controversial topics.
Reminds me of growing up with three brothers. We fought like cats and dogs but still protected and took care of each other.

I like that.

I have had some of the most interesting conversations with folks from here...the help has been tremendous and offered in such a polite, ah shucks manner (when they are real experts) it is flooring.

My favorite thread has been the, "Anyone Own an Ice Cream Store": "Why, yes I do" and they are off to the races.

Amazing.

One of my good friends I met on PP, he lives about 1/2 mile from me. He and I get together once or twice a month for wine tasting. He doesn't post much anymore here, but we're still friends. In my travels, I've met probably 100 pelicans and they've all been excellent company for dinner and a beer.

I like to give work to Pelicans (couple hundred thousand dollars worth so far)...most are at the top of their game/trade. I once thought about getting Trekkor out to do a big tile job here in Albuquerque (maybe he would like to get out of CA and visit)...but he is like the Michaelangelo of tile work...and used to working for the rich folks in CA...so likely not in my (tract home) price range....but the photos of his work that have been posted here are gorgeous. The man is a true artist.

I would love to come out for a tile job. And at a reduced price, too!

We will have to work something out. Let me know when things are slow and you would like to come out. I will need some lead time to get the demo/prep done. Albuquerque is a nice place to visit in the fall...we host the international balloon festival in October.

Without a digicam at the moment, but it looks great... sealed it with linseed and wax and turps, a pain to do but it gave it a great old world look. A local guy turned me on to using, of all things, a toliet bowl ring dissolved in turps for the wax (he does antique wood resto work) and it was killer, except for the fact that I applied maybe a half coat too many and had to clean it with thinner, but it looks awesome.
