Suicide has a way too high a fatality rate for me to enage in.

That, plus I can't stand the sight of blood, or painful experiences...

Climbing Mount Everest. I really can't imagine that it's "fun" and the risk is around 10%-12%. Seems that when most folks go up, there're about 10 folks in the group. Statistics say that one of you aren't coming back. Screw that.

So, less than 10% is a good bet.

My wife thinks I am nuts for flying in an airplane I built, I just have her check the deaths in automobiles everyday, then she says, "your not driving to the airport are you?"

Sure, but does that come at age 25 or age 85?

If I had known that being with my ex was going to kill me, I never would have gotten together with her.

But at the time, I was willing to risk it.

Of course, sometimes playing it safe is worse than death, if you have ever experienced that.

if you're not living, you're already dead

You can't calculate life.

All the screaming and yelling, blood eveywhere, the total chaos involved with a bank robbery and shootout with police does sound fun - but in the 100% risk group.

Belonging to the embroidery would be 0% risk. I suspect I'm in the 1% to 10% group. Surf, track days, mountain biking, street fights, occasionally drink too much. But no buggy jumping, skydiving or farting in lifts.

Years ago someone told me that Hang Gliding had the most fatalities in a sport and snow mobiling the second most.

I've never been hang gliding.

If there was a 1 in 10 chance of danger, I doubt it.
1 in 100; maybe, but not likely.
1 in a 1000; getting closer

Wow. You understand what a 10% fatality rate per instance means, right? Do it 10 times and you are very probably dead (appx 2/3 odds). Or, do it once with 10 buddies, and very probably only 9 of you come home. That is nuts.

I wouldn't voluntarily do any activity with a 10% fatality rate. That's like joining the first wave of landing craft ashore on D-Day, or riding along w/ the B17s on daylight bombing missions over Germany, just for "fun". Or, think playing Russian roulette with a 10 shot revolver.

Just to try and keep us on the same page and speaking the same language, the question I'm trying to explore is "fatality" rate. So, not risk of danger, but risk of death. Per each time you engage in the activity - e.g. each day of hanggliding.

I'm with Rick. It just gets in your blood. I got my first motorcycle when I was 15 and at 53 still own one. No chicken strips on the tires either!

Oh, and you might notice from my signature that my only two vehicles now are the bike and the 993. Just rode the grocery store to grab breakfast. Gotta ride to the bank and post office later. I'll be riding a LOT more now that the 330i is gone.
