Problem with some people is not necc the cars power but the show off factor and the inability to resist being baited into a street race.

It's a buyers market and you have someone who wants to give you asking price? Don't even give it a second thought - you'll regret it. Wanna feel better? Put a block of wood under the gas pedal before you sell it to him, and tell him about it a year later!

Actually have multiple buyers at asking price right now but no $$ in hand yet. I think that I will be able to place it with a more suitable home than the guy I referenced here in town. I also don't want to see the car every day of my life like I would with him. When I sell something, especially something I was fond of, I want it to be GONE. If that makes any sense. :cool:

Absolutely - never sell a car to friends or family! Except for that, I remember back in the day, friends would tell me about 100' lines to an open house along with the seller requiring a 10 page essay from the buyer about why they should sell their house to them.

Yeah, the 996 with it's showy styling, I hear some call it the modern day Countach, esp. in LA where such things like a Porsche must be very rare.

It take a lot of man to responsibly handle such over the top stylishness.

I'm not sure what the guy told you when he sold it to you, but have you ever wondered why you needed to buy Toyota Celica parts when repairing it? 300 HP in a 3000 pound car. That's not in the supercar hp/wt ratio of course, but it's a heck of a lot better than any of the cars you mentioned. His car (any 996) would embarrass all of them with ease. It's a high enough power to weight ratio to get someone in trouble if they're stupid with it.

I was just thinking about how over on the 911 tech board, people cream over getting 200 hp out of an SC that weighs 95% as much as my car. So maybe my hp/weight ratio is better than I thought. With race seats and a few other diet items, my car would be incredible.

I had the 996 engine in my 80SC and its a stout engine. The torque is addicting and it could be short shifted and still pull hard. I understand my SC weighed probably 2400 lbs but I cannot imagine this car feels much different.

Besides, throw some hot cams, headers, and chip it and you have a handful. The do like Denis said and put her on a diet and you have a VERY fun car for DE's Autocrosses and mountain carving.

I was very interested in this car, but cannot justify shipping or arranging transport back to Florida. Plus selling this deal to the wife did not go well. This is what I get for procrastinating on the new roof.

Handing a 18yo kid 996 is like giving a toddler a hand grenade.

While I clearly won't be saying anything against old 911s, I will say that I drove an early 996 at an autox and was very impressed. At autox speeds, it didn't feel any faster, but it really did mirror the handling characteristics of my car. I desperately want to make a 996 my daily driver to replace the Honda, but one 911 and no garage is a sufficient challenge at the moment.

It's an extremely rare Toyota/996. Kind of like a Chrysler/Allard from the early '50s, possibly the only one in existence.

A 996 chassis with a Toyota engine hung in there somehow? Looks more like a front drive Toyota with some stretched and/or trimmed 996 bodywork grafted onto it.
