Best pdf creator?

There seem to be hundreds of portable document (PDF) creators. Some free, some paid, some questionable.

I just want to scan in some of my business forms and have them portable and printable. It would be really nice (but not necessary) to also be able to fill out the form (interactive?) then print the 'finished' or 'filled-out' form. As you can tell, I'm not as up-to-date as I once was.

Should I step up and buy the Adobe verison? Are there any good free versions that are safe and legal?

I'm sure there are others out there, but Adobe is like MicroSoft. Almost everyone has it. If you ever need to send your forms to someone, they'll be able to open them w/o having to download some new app. Just food for thought.

Best is probably adobe.... But CutePDF is free and just as good if all you need to do is create them...(not so much edit them) - if you can print it, you can make it a PDF..

Now filling them out interactively won't work...

This is just a little off topic but I came across this last week. Click the link and scroll down to the red text. This programmer does not much care for the PDF format. I am not a programmer so I can't comment on his rant except to say he make it clear he does not care for PDF.

Actually, he's talking about "PSD" which is "Photoshop" not Acrobat.

Still.... He does make it clear.

I used and recommended PDFCreator, an open source package. Installs as a printer (similar to OS X), works well. No need to purchase Acrobat Pro for simple pdf's.
