Wow. Just wow.

Quizno's has had some pretty hilarious advertising in the past too. They actually used rathergood.com's "sponge monkeys" a few years ago, which confused the heck out of a lot of people who weren't familiar. Here it is for posterity:

the fact that you made a post about it shows that it is doing its job... while it doesn't make much sense it make for good talk around the water cooler at work. The more you hear the name the more it becomes an option when you are considering where to grab a bite.

The life of an AD GUY, now that would be the life.

How about.......... "Just Do It" or "It's the REAL thing"
Priceless stuff.

the idea of Quizzy's is good, but its one of the only food places that went tits up in my town?
We have 16,000 people, 25 restaurants which include 2 Timmy's and 2 subways that do very well.

Toasted, melted cheese with sliced meat; now how do you F that up?

I know of 2 that went belly up in my area, and another that never got off the ground: they set up the retail space, the sign went up, but they never opened. After a year or so, they finally took down the sign.

My dad and grandad had an agency employing 25. It's a pressure cooker, that's why I'm a contractor (or was).

Ask techweenie, he's an ad man (or was )

It would have been funnier - and a bit less creepy - if the oven had a female voice.

Damnit - I had one of these at the local quiznos... for one, I don't like quiznos- the food is good but it's overpriced around here compared to what you can get at a Subway.

But I figure I'd try one of these things. $4 sounds like a good deal, maybe trying to upstage Subway's $5 footlongs I think...

but alas.. the thing is about a foot long but half the width of a subway footlong with pretty much nothing on it.

And the entire time you're eating it, it looks like you're performing a sex act. Why did they have to make it so phallic shaped? It's a big dong.

Maybe Carrie Prejean will do a Taco Bell's new Tuna Taco commercial.

If it is so easy, you should give it a try. Top ad execs make serious money.

It never ceases to amaze me how people will downplay creativity and how difficult it is to create something. Same comments during the writer's strike.

There are good ads and bad ones. Some are brilliant (much of Chiat/Day's work comes to mind). Branding is incredibly difficult. The Nike campaign is clearly genius as it has become ingrained in society. It is more than just stringing three words together...

Not a bad marketing gamble. They know that customers perceive them as expensive. Market research has identified that problem long ago. They know that Subway is the leader - in identity, locations, turnover & value. And almost to saturation with all the combo mini outlets. And after all, they know that a sub is a sub.

So they 'invent' the Torpedo. Smaller. $4 to hit the value end of the market. Cheaper to bake & stuff since it's smaller. They bill it as a ciabatta for the upmarket clientele. In the commercial, it 'brims' with stuffings to look like a 'big' lunch.

Then they launch with a spot that hits all of the above & heaps of sexual innuendo to titillate the market.

An ad that is discussed is an ad that is successful.

Correct you are. What's more, to land a big account and that million bucks, you have to go in with your campaign ideas and well researched marketing strategy on your dime. I remember my dad working for weeks to get an account only to have the client select someone else.

If he did get a big account, as soon as a new VP in charge of sales was hired, out went the existing ad agency. Yep, piece of cake.

As a final straw, a couple of these "big accounts" didn't pay too swiftly. My dad got stiffed for a few hundred thousand for ads he had placed. He ended up closing the doors, selling the accounts to another agency and going to work for someone else buying media space for huge advertisers.

Then he died like a lot of ad execs before he could even draw a SS check.

sho nuff, piece o' cake.

I spent 5-1/2 years at Chiat/Day. It was fun. But the thing about advertising is that if you make it look too easy, you get no respect. I was involved in campaigns that helped grow companies that made over 20,000 millionaires. It's a business with only a handful of people over 35, and I had to go out on my own at 39. Not complaining; I did fine.
