He picked the car up from the shop yesterday...

An email I got from Bill

Quote:
Holy crap...I just gave this guy, ********** his car yesterday (driver of "The Yellow Porsche"). He was a long time customer and a sweetheart of a guy. He stood about 6 3 and was, as I knew him, a gentle guy. He was in my office just yesterday talking about his 911 and the plans he had for the car.

6'3" "madman in a rage"?

I don't blame the young kid in the altima at all based on the small amount of info available.

My opinion could change 180 degrees though, depending on what else comes out, but i doubt it. Sure seems like the 6'3" porsche dude pretty much entirely provoked this incident, and refused to allow the kid to escape. I honestly would've done the same thing based on the info available.

EXCERPT:

"The Altima driver made a turn to get away then made a U-turn, apparently to continue on his way. The Porsche driver blew a red light to block him off and jumped out of the sports car again, Messina said.

"It looked like he was going to rip the kid out of the car," Messina said, adding that the Porsche driver was banging on the hood of the other car.

He said the Altima driver tried to put the car into reverse but there was another vehicle behind him. He cut to the left and the victim jumped in front.

"Next thing you know, this guy just went down - wham!" Messina said."

-------------

Looks like Mr.Porsche was demanding a date with Darwin, and wouldn't take no for an answer.

Let' see what Ron has to say.

Long Beach is his turf, he likely knows the driver.

After reading the article thoroughly, I'd say it was wrong, of course, but the 22 YO won't be charged with anything beyond misdemeanor manslaughter. The fact that he drove off and then parked seem to me to be an action to make sure the ballistic P-car guy wasn't still after him. You never know, some people have been run over only to get right back up.

The article states, "He said the Altima went into reverse, but there was another vehicle behind it. The driver cut to the left and the victim jumped in front."

The case is closed for me.

another paper's story

http://www.newsday.com/news/local/nassau/ny-lirage1612771445may15,0,6067308.story

I was told a little different story by someone who was a couple of cars behind on how the guy got run over, not that it makes a difference to anything. I'll be quiet on that one.

This guy drove home and was shaking from watching this. The dead guy's head had a hole in it and brain matter was on the street.

I don't know either of the guys involved in the incident.

My guess, just a guess is that it started with the Porsche driver's frustration from not being able to shake the Nissan. It would be very in character for a 22 y.o. Nissan driver to want to race an old Porsche.

Wow, very odd. If the article is correct, it doesn't sound like the kid necessarily did anything wrong. I've often thought when I seen something similar in the movies of someone standing in the road trying to stop someone in a car with malicious intent. Hell no, me or them. I'm running your azz down. Granted, I've never been in the situation personally, and what you think you'd do and what happens in real life are two very different things, so who knows.

I'm sure the kid had a hand in pissing the old guy off and he will probably be haunted by this for many years or until the end of his days.

It's very unfortunate, but it's also why I don't let my emotions run amuck WRT the road and driving. It's just too dangerous. My thought is always, they could have a gun in the car, but this is a good demonstration of why a gun is the least of your worries. Cars are much easier to aim.

Very sad.

Hopefully it will only be the one life that's ruined. Based on the above eyewitness testimony there is no way in hell the kid should face charges. In a lot of states he would already be out.

Shouldn't he at least get a boot to the head?

The law is funny. Why is it that when someone acts in a threatening and irrational manner we expect the object of the threat to act in a rational manner?

The "fight or flight" response is unpredictable by nature. If you get out of your car and scare the crap out of someone, ANYTHING could happen. Why would we expect the kid to behave in a detached, deliberate manner?

"The car was registered to a 66-year-old Long Beach woman."

Who knows, the dead guy might have deserved to be run over twice just to make sure.
