Thanks for posting that Dutchie. Classic!
|
I promise...no chasing Hemi Chargers through the streets of San Francisco.
Strange but true...Ford did a fair job of matching that exhaust note. |
Shame they don't make a Bullit Charger, so you could buy the set.

congratulations pwd!
That is one of the few new cars that I really like. Enjoy in good health. max |

Congrats Paul! Nice choice.
BTW on the no spare thing - our Mini Cooper S Clubman, has run flat tires (that are getting noisey) and no spare. When it's time to replace the tires, I've thought about not getting the run flats. It would cost over $400 for the spare and the jack equipment for it. |
Paul - are you getting a stick?
Anyone know about the car in the movie - was it supposed to be a stock car, cuz it certainly seems like it had suspension and engine mods. |
Yes, it had been hotrodded. A corvette guy named Dick Goldstrand (sp) did the upgrades to it.

Where are the pics of this new car? |
Nice car Paul an Cindy
Thanks for the chase vid as well.
Anyone notice the white 356 B coupe parked on the right of the first long down hill charge. The part that includes passing the the green Volkswagen. It appears again. and again. and then again. Film. Shawn. |
Guys, I'll try to get around to pics...honest. So far, I've been having too much fun driving it, plus doing the personalization thing. It now has a spare tire, jack, lug wrench...all out of a wrecked '09 GT. $100. Bought a small batch of carry tools @ Sears. Spare front mats out of the wreck as well...they cleaned up well. spare is 17" steel wheel with a "donut" tire. Will clear the brakes, so should be able to carefully limp to a tire store should I get a cut tire. Yes, I have roadside service, but I do drive over mountain passes with no cell service. Just didn't like driving with no spare!
Yesterday, to Salem & back for pool playing. Cues & Cases fit well in both the rear seat and the trunk. Met up with another old car guy buddy...Marty "TTOD" Vomund. He still has the '58 Speedster (modified a bit) that earned the nickname. We went out to dinner. 3 ride comfortably, as long as the passenger seat is forward. DAEpperson, yes...it's a 5 speed, 3:73 ratio rear axle. Lower ratio than the GT mustang, which has 3:55. I also have limited slip. Quite a few added goodies other than looks to the "Bullitt" package. Track pack suspension, strut brace, different brake pads...the list goes on. Note to self to watch the speedo...driving home last night, glanced down, 95! I really had no plans to roll that fast. The chase Vid...I've heard from a guy who ought to know, that 2 Mustangs were used in the movie. NASCAR type beefing on the suspension, stiffened frame, double shocks, etc. Far as I heard tho, the power was a stock 390 cubes engine. I could be wrong on that tho...the exhaust had to have been modded. It's now in the garage, freshly waxed. Checked tire pressures...Ford dealership prep...found as much a 6 psi differences. All nice and even 33 cold now. Last night was first night drive. I agree, HID lights worth the extra cost! Possibly even better vision than the H-1's on the old 911S. Guess that's it...for now. |
Some nice stretches of windy road on the way out to Silver Creek Park, East of Salem.
You could take along a pic-a-nic basket Max Buckowski(sp?) built the motors too, not stock 390 |
I've heard the double shocks on all 4 wheel story, I don't know where they could stick the front ones.
If you look in the pics of mine there's not much room (yes mines is stuffed with 245/50/16's vs 215/70/15's 225/60/15's didn't come out till the '69 boss 302 cars) |
Watched the vid. Wow that Charger looks goofy with the skinny tires. But the Mustang looks just right. Sounded a "little" like my old '65 Mustang. What happened to the original Mustangs used in the movie?
|
1 crushed
The other one is owned by a cop in boston (info's a few years old) Did you count how many hubcap fly off in the chase? the car might have been a Tyrrell |
Here's a good page about the movie and the cars, including a link at the bottom regarding the whereabouts of the surviving Bullit Mustang. Most of the mods to the Mustangs used in the film were in the nature of reinforcements to the front unibody structure and specifically the shock towers to keep the car from bending in half during the landings when it went airborne in the chase scene.
Exhaust was glass-pack mufflers of the day. "Balchowski also had to do some tuning to the Mustang's 390ci High Performance engine to help it keep up with the Dodge's 440ci Magnum. Apparently, according to reliable sources, the stock Dodge would run away and hide from the Mustang." Enjoy: http://www.ponysite.de/bullitf.htm |
Just for good measure, here's another shot in color of our Dark Moss Green '67 'stang w/ the 289/271 hp parked behind my Mom's new '69 Maverick in "Thanks Vermillion".
1969 was the year that Ford had some whimsical names for their colors like "Anti-establish-mint" and "Fraudian Gilt". :D You can see why I'm a Ford-lover to this day, (sorry Sammy), you can't erase childhood memories like these. Yeah, that's me w/ my Mom: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1244096234.jpg |
