Seriously Considering Purchasing An E55 AMG

Hey Gang - Well I found an E55 AMG that fits the bill, its an 1 owner late '06 car with only 15K miles. The price is very fair as well. The car drives fantastic as should anything with over 500lb.ft of torque (its actually a handful if you stay on it).

The car will be purchased through the Benz dealer and is CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) and still has warranty until the end of 2011.

The car is loaded to the gills, heated and cooled seats, Panorama roof, electric rear window shade, Key-less "Go", Electric Trunk and also the Benz dealer just put new rotors and pads in the front and 4 brand new Yokohama tires as well as all new filters and that bill was $2200.

I am little antsy to pull the trigger, as I hate car loans although I am getting a decent rate of 5.0% for 48months through my bank and the economy has me on the shy side as well.

The dealer is giving a decent trade-in (not killer mind you..no surprise) on my low mileage still under warranty '04 Infiniti M45.

Makes me wonder do I wait some more, until the E55 AMG prices come down, economy stabilizes and then do it, which means the longer I wait for that my M45 also goes down in value accordingly, that cat and mouse game ya know blended with financial responsibility!

Your thoughts?

My M45

You're always going to get hammered when you swap relatively recent cars. Going used/CPO helps though. I certainly wouldn't want to own that Mercedes out of warranty though - seems like a lot to go wrong. Ask my ex about her Audi A8...

I think the more recent Benz products are pretty reliable. It's the Daimler-Chrysler merger years that were pretty rough.

Awesome cars, I guess it's all up to you as far as being hosed on the loan. Personally I refuse to borrow on cars. I also DON'T drive a 2006 E55.

My retired USAF friend in Florida has one...loves it, but has reported he was glad he has/had? a warranty...didn't mention any specific problems.

Really like those cars but I think they all should have had a genuine limited slip differential from day one...seems almost criminal to me.

There was a guy that used to come into my shop....he had an E55 AMG with 40K in engine mods in it....had 620hp at the wheels. I'm sure it's crashed by now...

Go 4 it! Why not? You're a car guy, that thing is a blast....enjoy life!
Besides if you don't get it, you will one day be on a thread regarding what car you missed buying saying, "well I had an opportunity to get a nice AMG...."

From the MB Forums these E55 AMG are showing to be reliable no weired electric issues or problems with the very unique suspension, alot of owners have racked up 60+K with only routine maintenance. CPO is a must.... definitely.

EVOSport has some great parts for these cars...their shop car is over 600whp...Incredible.

I have an '06 E55. Bought it new. Nothing but routine maintenance.

It's easy and pretty cheap to go well north of 500HP. Even with the stock 469 HP if you take off traction control and hit the gas you will not move. You will just roast the tires. The supercharger gives that car amazing torque.

The interior is amazingly comfortable. It has three suspension modes and three transmission shifting modes. Very comfortable for long trips.

You need to go to MBWorld.com and visit the E55 forum. Lots of great info.

You'll love the E55. It's a beast. And yes, it's faster that the M5.

Thanks for chiming in Moses. What color is your car and how many miles are on it? Also do you get any additional options with yours?

The interior is beautiful in these cars definitely and a great road trip car - agreed! The Dynamic seats are incredible. I will take an E55 over an E63 any day BTW and take an E63 over a M5!

I have visited the E55 forums on MB World quite abit, I am still a member from 5 years ago, when I had my AMG W124.
Cheers.

I have every option except power trunk, pano roof and lighted sills. I added the newest MB Bluetooth (works flawlessly) and I added factory iPod integration.

I have 35,000 miles. It's flint gray. The car still looks new. By the way, the E55 is faster than the E63. It's all about the torque.

Just my opinion, but the stock wheels look amazing on the E55. They really show off the calipers. There's only about 1/8" clearance. They are beautiful.

The beauty of torque:

If you get the E55, you will have to change your screen name. Slow and rusty? NOT!

Honestly I think that's overstated urban legend from my own personal experiences. I have a 2001 SLK (the Daimler-Chrysler years were 1998-2007 IIRC) and it's been the best vehicle I've ever owned - flawless except for an O2 sensor (which I got replaced under warranty). No issues.

Moses right on thanks for the reply! I agree on the E63 being slower than the E55 and I love the factory wheels, they are beautiful.

Gotta keep the Slow 'N' Rusty name its a good reminder of my humble start with these (great) tubs...
