Sam Maloof obit.
RIP to one of the great craftsmen. I remember dragging my wife (before we were married) to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston years ago just to look at a furniture exhibit, which contained some of his works.

Kind of happy just to know there are fellow Pelicans who know who Sam Maloof was!
Amazing craftsman and artist.

I love his use of wood joinery (i.e. not the nailed/screwed/glued crap that's so common today). There's such beauty in those details. Sad loss for the world.

Sam Maloof was a true American treasure. I watched a program about Sam a while back and he really came across as a quality person.

That's a bummer. I have a t-shirt signed by him.

He literally lived just up the road from me in Alta Loma...I once enquired about have him make a Chest to house my Alan Adler flatware set...that would have been an unbeatable combination of two of the most renowned craftsman of their era.

I have seen a few of his pieces in person. He was the master of design and technique. Next to him is John Nyquist.

I just sold my wood shop and was thinking of Sam the other day. What a loss, but what an example of how to live. I wonder how many others out there, that we do not know about, are carrying on his values and traditions. RIP old wise one.
