				Truck tires....whatddya use ?

Need new rubber on my 06 Dodge Dually. I've been quoted on Micheline LTX and Toyo. I had the Mic's on my last truck and loved them. The quote is $1900 incl mount/bal but no milage warrantee or road hazard. Another place showed me Toyo which look nearly the same FWIW. Again no milage warrantee but road hazard is incl for $1625.

Anyone got better tires to recommend and/or anyone have opinions on the Toyo ?

Anyone chiming in w/ less than a 3/4 ton w/ E-rated (load) tires does not use the same type rubber as OP. I love duellys but maintenance costs go to a whole 'nother level w/ regards to tires and especially brakes.

I bought the Toyos in E-load for my last Superduty and absolutely hated them. They had the worst *tread squirm* on the highway that I've ever felt and it never went away. The only reason that I did not return them immediately was because the tire dealer convinced me that it was only a temporary thing while they were new and I bought them in MN. and proceeded to drive home to CA. right away. Maybe a great tire in other ways, (toughness/wear/etc.), but absolute garbage to drive on. My old, balding worn-out tires drove 10x better on the highway. Go on a heavy-duty truck board and ask around, you'll get a lot more relevant experience than here. TIrerack.com's reviews can be helpful but you need to read several to get any kind of quorum. |

I've had BF Goodrich, Bridgestones, and Goodyears on my F-250 (all E-Load rated) and out of the three, the Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor are the best. BF Goodrich and Bridestones were good for the street, but SUCKED in the rain or mud. The only negative on the SilentArmors is panic stops; the first time I had one with the Goodyears I thought I was going to die.....the tires slide/skid much more than the BFGs or Bridgestones. I got about 37k miles on the BFGs, 42k on the Bridgestones, and expect to get about 50k out of the SilentArmor.

Got well over 80k miles out of the stock set of LTX A/S Michelins on the Dodge 2500. The replacement tires are the same, but it was a lot less than $1900. I'm thinking $200 each, mounted and balanced. Still doesn't come anywhere close to your $1900, unless those rear tires are special. I was never a fan of Michelin (because of price and the fact it's a French company), but these LTX tires converted me. jurgen

My F250 SD diesel came w/Pirelli's street tires. I have no complaints and they handled the wet roads in Oregon just fine.

Yeah, $200 each on the high side should be about right and that comes out to $1200 for all mounted/balanced. You need to do more shopping around, the tire dealers are certainly hungry down here.

Another nod for the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armour. I've got a set of them on my single rear wheel 3500 Ram. Great traction. Handle well. At least as quiet as the Michelin LTXs. Wear seems to be about average.

My truck (used F350 PSD w/ 50K miles) came with Firestone Steeltex tires on it. Those were great tires, in my opinion, but they don't make them anymore. When those wore out I put Michelin LTX MS on it thinking the "MS" would give me some passable traction in dirt but decent highway performance, since I'd be using them on the road mostly. They were fine on the pavement, but totally sucked once I got off road and I hated them for that. They had no traction at all. I got 38K miles out of them. I just put Michelin LTX AT2's on the truck. They have a little better traction off road, but seem kind of squirelly on the road. Supposedly they last for quite awhile. Can't comment on any others.

Check prices at Tire Rack. They always save me money over the local shops, even when you consider shipping.

I'd go Goodyear Wrangler SR-A or Bridgestone Duravis which were oem for Ford and GM, respectively. They're about $135 each and are every bit as good as the Michelins, IMHO. No E-load tires have warranty or UTQG |

I put Goodyears on my dually last year and bought them at Walmart and had them mounted there also. The cost was about 2/3 of what Discount Tire and a couple of other places wanted. To do the balancing they had to manually over ride the hood safety switch on the balancer and they also had to use floor jacks since the truck would not fit inside their lifts!

I ordered the tires on line and they went to the local Walmart and they called me when they came in...... |
