online backup suggestions?
Anyone use and online backup service? There are tons out there, but I've never heard of any of them. I'd hate to use one that goes kaput.

I'm thinking SSD (SolidState Drive) is a better way to go. ...and still use local (redundant) back-up.

online/offsite just seems like the simple easy way to do it. they can barely make good coffee much less deal with backup tapes. |

Ah. Well then, I'd go with Carbonite.com -based on their ad budget they seem to be very well funded. There may be better out there.

I'd hate to use one that exposes my data to anyone able to crack into an online site.
Backup to DVD or tape or something and then physically transport that offsite! |

I have been using Carbonite for over a year. Google for promotional code, should save 10%.
I pay $3.85/month and their service has been very good. I have over 400gig backed up on their servers. I have tested deleted files and restoring and all has been well.

I use sugarsync, nice to be able to synchronize multiple computers. With multi-platform, so far, so good.

I use ibackup.com, but their client side software is flaky. i'm curious to look into other services, so i'll check out carbomite.

I've been using Mozy. It was recommended by one of my guys at the office and has been working great so far. I have around 125GB backed-up there.
BackBlaze is supposed to be good as well, but I have no personal experience. Both support Windows and Mac and run in the background on your machine in a "set and forget" mode. I previously used Upline from HP for a while, but they shut it down. I also back up my personal files to a NAS device with dual mirrored 1TB drives. At work we have an elaborate disc+tape backup system with the tapes going to Iron Mountain for offsite storage. We are not currently backing-up work files to the cloud for several reasons, but mostly bandwidth.

Mozy. It is owned by EMC a multi billion dollar storage company.
