The really really sweet E30 is back
Do any of you want to go check it out for me?
Here is the original thread: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1220750 Note the end where he explains why it is back ont he market. Not sure of what to think about that... I asked him via PM a moment ago what state the car is in- I think it is in Michigan. Atlanta would be MUCH easier for me, but anyhoo- if its in Michigan does anybody wanna check it out for me? I'll make it up to you somehow... I'll give you a position in my cabinet when I am president. |

Find out where in Michigan he is and I would be glad to look at it if it's not too far from me.
It looks as though the upgrades were well thought out.

That is an impressive amount of car for that price, I can't believe it's not long gone.

Super-nice car but someone would have to want that exact swap and really love E30s. I would imagine that you can get a pretty creamy '90s M3 4-door for the same $$.

Sorry, a little too far for me.
Several Pelicans live that way, though.

What I wonder is, if the last buyer had a PPI done, could I call the shop where the PPI was done and pay them a few bucks for a copy of their report?

They would probably say no...but it never hurts to ask.

I would ask the seller if he has a copy. If the original buyer and seller did split on good terms this shouldnt be an issue. IF the PPI was bad then I would expect the seller to put up excuses. I would also call the shop and ask, all they can do is say no.

I pm'd him last night to ask about the PPI- I told him I'd even throw the other guy a few bucks for him to scan me a copy. We shall see....

OK- the guy who did the PPI was just another forum member (r3vlimited.com, which is an E30 specific format). He's going to put me in touch with him, and then if that sounds good I am going to pay for a PPI at a shop I found in NW Detroit called Nikolas Motorsport. They have a website that at http://www.nikolasmotorsport.com/ . They seem like the right kind of place to get this done. THEN- assuming this goes well, I would need to figure out how to get the car down here.

Cool.
Nikolas is a pretty reputable shop and does work on several of our PCA member's 911's. I have heard nothing but good about them.

A PPI is a must, consider it an insurance policy. I spent $900 on 3 failed PPI's before I purchased my 911. You making a smart move.
Another piece of advise. I paid to have a PPI done on a 930 for sale here years ago. While it was int he shop getting the PPI done someone bought the car out from under me. They offered to pay for the PPI and then purchased the car. When it seemed to be taking a long time to get the PPI results I inquired with the shop and they referred me to the owner. He informed he he paid the PPI price himself and sold the car to someone else, never informing me what had happened. Poor form IMHO. I would send a refundable deposit to the seller to show intent and to lock in your transaction to buy this car. This is what I did when I bought my 3.6 swap, I sent 2K to the seller with the understanding if the car failed the PPI I got the deposit back. Then the balance was wire transferred once I had the title in my hand. Its the perfect time of year to fly to Detroit and drive the car back over a 3 day weekend. That is what I would do it will be the same cost as shipping the car and more fun. Congrats!! I cannot wait to see this monster in person. When are we hitting a PCA AX? ![]() Oh, and I think its impressive that a buyer was toiling over this Vs. a M5 what a compliment to this car.

that's a sweet ride.
if the seller's story in his last post is true, he has the patience of a saint. I would not indulge potential buyers of my $13K car with SIX HOUR test drives/tire kicking sessions. I'd rather have that car than a stock E36 M3, any day. The only thing I'd do to it is put the 318i emblem back on! |

With the thought, preparation and attention to detail performed on this car, I would take this car over any E36. As mentioned in your previous thread, I almost did. You won't be dissapointed. Like any car, I would strongly advise seeing the car in the flesh before pulling the trigger.
Unfortunately I'm out of town indefinitely, otherwise I'd be more than happy to assist. Excellent choice in Nikolas for a PPI. Good luck. Last edited by Sarc; 06-09-2009 at 11:24 AM.. |

I'd go as far as to say that's the perfect E30. Just wow! Great price too, that's a lot of car for the money. The only change I would make is a mild aftermarket exhaust.
