This thread is useFUL without pics.

No, not being selfish.

What's the benefit of uncircumcised anyway? More feel? I don't need any more feeling there. Usually I need less :D

I'm hung like a baby boy - 6 lbs, 10 oz, and 19.75 inches!

No, you're not being selfish. You're talking about cosmetics, yes, but that in no way makes it wrong.

Did you pick out a name? Bet it's not Tweedle the Turdchewer. It's probably something like Jason, or Steve. That's because how people perceive us is important.

You're doing fine, pay no attention the the hand-wringing au-naturel ninnies.

I was circumcised at birth and I like how it looks. But your argument is invalid because 99.99% of the people you ever meet will NEVER see you naked and therefore never have to judge you on it. Those two jerks in middle school who have to be bullies have the problems and aren't worth it.

Go read up on the procedure and how the babies aren't given anesthesia because of body weight and pass out due to the pain. It's torture at birth. Let your son decide for himself when he's older.

Nonsense.

Copied from teh site:

Circumcision Pain and Memory

No adverse psychological aftermath has been demonstrated [493]. A longitudinal study in the UK, beginning in 1946, involving over 5,000 individuals followed from birth to age 27 found no difference in developmental and behavioural indices between circumcised and uncircumcised males [94].

Long-term psychological, emotional, and sexual impediments from circumcision are anecdotal [380, 626] and can be discounted. It must be recognized that there are many painful experiences encountered by the child before, during and after birth [361]. Circumcision, if performed without anaesthetic is one of these.

Cortisol levels, heart rate and respiration have registered an increase during and shortly after the procedure [558, 559], indicating that the baby is not unaware of having had something painful done in instances when circumcision has been carried out without anesthesia. It is therefore generally advised that local anesthetic be used for all circumcisions on infants (more on anesthesia later).

The response is variable and, even without anesthetic, some babies show no signs of distress at all. Most do, however, and this may be contributed by the restraining procedure, not just the surgery itself.

In the past doctors and parents had to weigh up the need to inflict this short-term pain in the context of a lifetime of gain from prevention or reduction of subsequent problems. Use of anesthetic for circumcision makes it either relatively or absolutely pain-free.

If I were the guy in middle school being picked on by the two jerks because of my hoodie, I'd be some pissed off that my parents elected instead to spare me the pain when I was 10 minutes old.

What was your middle school experience like? Would you tell your folks "Gee, guys, I've given this some thought, and the kids are giving me some grief, so could I, you know, have my schlong trimmed"?

As a parent part of your job is to use adult judgment because your child can't. By the time he's old enough to go and have this handled, the damage is done.

I speak from some experience - while I was neither the picked on kid nor the bully, I was there and saw it happen. These are exactly the thoughts that went thru my mind when my sons were born.

To those that are untrimmed, I know you have some perspective that I don't. I may put more emphasis on this than is due, but I remember kids in school that were mercilessly harassed because of it.

scottmandue 06-11-2009 08:57 AM

That whole birthing thing was painful and traumatic for me!

I never recovered!

SOMEONE GET ME A LAWYER!

s_morrison57 06-11-2009 08:58 AM

I'm lucky, I'm a Canadian so everything from child birth to open heart operations are free, but when it comes to Fore skin and you want it gone it's considered optional cosmetic surgury and you have to pay - about $400.00 CDN

Q: Why do they spank babies when their born?
A: To knock the foreskins off the dumb ones or to knock the dicks off the dumb ones

Q: How do you circumcise a killer whale?
A: 4 skin divers

scottmandue 06-11-2009 09:02 AM

So we cut off their foreskins when they are a baby then when we grow up they tell us to cover it with a condom... no wonder kids are so confused!

LOL ..what I was thinking.

I really don't get the "appearance" argument. I mean, how far back do you have them cut? ...so it still looks like a matsutake mushroom spout when he's comes out of the cold water? Seems stupid.

s_morrison57 06-11-2009 09:29 AM

Moses
Sorry but you are dead wrong. To anethisize (OK my spelling sucks) a baby is a dangerous thing and is only done in an emergency. Maybe a local shot but I doubt that as well. I saw a show on TV about pain and how the body deals with it, the " old wives tale " is that babies don't feel pain - wrong again and to prove it they tape recorded a baby crying cause it was hungry, then they played the recording they made when that same baby lost his fore skin , the memery of that still gives me the creeps, if any one heard that sreaming from the apt. next door you would break down walls and hurt the person that was inflicting that level of pain to a new born. It was shocking to hear and expecting parents should listen to that recording before making a call on a worthless operation, after hearing that no parent would ever knowinly submit their child to that level of pain. If this operation is done for a religious reason then maybe your taking your religon a bit to seriously. IMO

red-beard 06-11-2009 09:45 AM

And now for the ethnic joke of the day!

Why do ethinic women like circumcised penises?

Cause they like 10% off everything!

"Ba-da-bing"

I'll be here all week

Try the veal. And don't forget to tip your waitresses. They're great girls!

Amail 06-11-2009 09:47 AM

Sorry Moses, this guy saw proof on tv - you need to brush up on your medical knowlege!

the 06-11-2009 09:51 AM

what is the current % of babies that are circumsized in the US?

I thought I recall reading a couple years ago that it is now down to less than 50%.

Serenity now...

Don't even know where to start with this drivel.

No one would even suggest using a general anesthetic on an infant for a circumcision. Every circumcision I've seen in the last 15 years has been with a local anesthetic. First a swab with a numbing agent on a Q-tip (painless), then a small injection of lidocaine through a tiny tuberculin needle (also painless). Once the nerve block is full (about 5 minutes) the circumcision is performed. Babies frequently fall asleep during the procedure.

I have no strong feelings about circumcision. Do it or don't...your call. I am however highly offended by irrational, hysterical misinformation. Leave that stuff for Oprah.

flatbutt 06-11-2009 10:02 AM

between moses and kevin my monitor is dripping with coffee!

flatbutt 06-11-2009 10:05 AM

AND I was in the room when my boy was tipped...he did not pass out from the pain as a local was used and he barely issued more than a whimper.

Moses 06-11-2009 10:09 AM

And another thing, Morrison. You know those crunchberries in Cap'n Crunch? They're not real berries. Seriously.
