Texas is scary

So earlier this year I was chased up my driveway by a Coyote.

Tonight I survived a friggin tornado.

Was driving home and we had a huge front blow through, could hear the tornado sirens going off but I was on a stretch of road (FM 2499) that is under construction and there was no where to pull off. The wind turned into a howling sand storm and the construction barrels were flying all over the place and after getting hit by 3 or 4 of them I stopped to let the ones in my path clear.

Then about 5 ft in front of me the ground went dark and a column of dirt about 10 ft wide shot straight into the air then came right at me and passed dead center over my car.

Once again I screamed like a little girl but proudly did not soil myself, too bad.

Not an experience I care to repeat.

Well, for the Coyote I would suggest a .223 - for the tornado...yikes what a horrifying experience...

I don't think we had any rotation here in Plano, but the school about 1 mile away had 80 mph wind readings as reported on the news. I have a lot of debris and broken trees. It was a fast moving storm 55 mph, with some areas having rainfall at 8+ in/hr.

The thing with tornados is they just drop out of the sky and are there, boom.

Dude, I know it was not a hugely dangerous tornado but man it scared the crap outa me.

It actually moved/spun the car a bit.

Oddly enough the second thing that popped into my head after "I"m gonna die!" was a flying cow.

OK the tornado must have been spooky but a coyote, come on, either get aggressive with them and they will split, or be sfraid and ***** slap yourself for being a wiener

That sounds awful. Must feel pretty helpless...glad you're ok!

I was in a massive tornado several years ago. Y'know those landscape-style road signs that are visible from the interstate, and supported by huge steel 'I' beams? This twister folded one of those in half - at the base of the beams. The tornado went right over us - fortunately we were in an older building that was built like a brick scheisshaus. It had a basement, to which we fled.

The sounds it made as it approached and then went over us, were the most terrifying thing I have ever experienced.

The aftermath is nearly as scary. When you come out, the seemingly arbitrary nature of the damage is chilling. Our building had one steel door ripped off the hinges, never to be found. No other damage to our building, yet we took a direct hit. A hundred or so yards away, aforementioned sign was folded up. Other buildings leveled. No rhyme or reason.

When I moved to Texas, everybody was talking about being afraid of earthquakes. This was at the time of the Conroe flooding in October 1994. They had a 100 year flood twice in the 10 years I was living there, which makes me wonder about how they name these floods. In Tejas, they have hail the size of baseballs, ice storms, one hundred degree farenheit temps with 103% humidity(which I am still skeptical is possible, despite experiencing it)5 kinds of poisonous snakes, alligators, I could go on, trust and believe it.

Did you know that the weather radar turns purple if it rains hard enough? Starts green, then yellow, red and purple when it gets beyond dangerous, which is what I have always taken red to indicate. They get freakin' hurricanes, and tornadoes, and hurricanes accompanied by tornadoes and floods, which is a long weekend, at best.

All this and they are talking about earthquakes, which last like a minute, tops.

Don't use the "Nostatic" method for coyote removal. Not recommended.

A turnaeder? Shoot, that was barely a dust devil.

BTW, say "Hi" to the Tin Man and the Wizard!

I never enjoyed the white knuckle rides from Lubbock Airport back to Portales at night during a spring sand storm driving a 70's VW bug.

Almost got the crap scared out of me when a huge tumbleweed landed on the hood after dodging moving orange constructing barrels

Tobra,

You get USED to the hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding, wild animals, little snakes, gators, etc. as they are all common. Now those massive 3.0 earthquakes, they hardly (n)ever happen!!! That can scare a person ;-)

Grew up in Houston, saw most everything in the city limits. Back when we still did cattle ranches inside the loop. Man has it changed...

There are still Cattle inside Beltway 8, but not inside 610. I think there still are polo fields and horses, just south of I-10, on the north side of Memorial Park.

Shell Refinery, I want to say 1975 or 1976. The chemical lab went up in a massive explosion that rocked Pasadena and Southeast Houston. We were playing football that hot summer day. I remember the earth shaking!! My neighbor was the only person killed in that explosion.

Yep, strange things we forget about...

I also forgot, a little .38 will take care of the coyote issue as well. I would bet the poor thing was either playing with you or was rabid. Not too many rabid coyotes running around.
