Home remedies for Poison Ivy?

Wifey seems to have gotten into some PI.

We are using calamine lotion but do any of youse guys have any home remedies you could share to help with the itching.

The hot water idea from the chiggers thread didn't seem to help.

Oatmeal paste can work but is similar to calamine lotion. I've always used Caladryl Clear which has Benadryl in it to help with the itching. I've heard of and tried rubbing a raw potato on the areas but didn't feel any relief.

Make up a Mustard and Relish poultice.

Roughly 75% mustard and 25% relish. Sometimes it helps to add onions and sourcrout to the mix but only on severe cases...

Pee on it.

Might not work, but it'll be funny as hell.

I use bleach to get rid of it. I also use and anti-itch cream.

There is another recent post on this topic that has some good info.

wet tea bags. Triamcinolone Acetonide cream works awesome, prescription though.

No home remedy, just go the doctor and get a Cortizone shot, get rid of it, don't waste your time.

Wifey read these when I was out playing with the kids.

She replied "haha" to this one.

A guy that worked for me said that your first pee in the am is good for acne so I thought this might be a viable solution to the PI. Wifey isn't keen on it.

What was her response to the "tea bag" recommendation?

1. Get a small amount of ginseng, extract or root.
2. Take ONE leaf from poison ivy plant.
3. Crush/grind both together in a bowl.
4. Get about 12 oz. of water and bring to a boil.
5. Drop in crushed ginseng/ poison ivy.
6. Stir well and let cool.
7. Strain/filter the crushed contents and then …drink the resulting water.
8. See step one ( repeat: three or four times, spread over 7-10 days. )
9. Result: Lifetime Immunity
(unless your di#k falls off …in which case you didn’t read about that from me!)

I've had poison ivy so many times in my life that I think I'm now allergic to it rather than have built up an immunity. Last time I had it, it spread over my entire left arm, part of my torso and some of my left leg.

Best thing out there is Zanfel. Back then you had to order it through a pharmancy, but now I think you can get it over the counter at Walmart. Yes, it's expensive...but it works. I had boils the size of a baseball and after one long application of it while taking a shower the boils were half the size and I had relief for a couple hours.

This in conjunction with a some kind of steriods from the doctor, I think my bad case of poison ivy went away in like 3-4 days. No scaring either.

If someone tells you to try the home remedy of popping the blisters and applying Clorox...run away. Not only does it hurt and may leave scars...it does nothing and really hurts...bad.

Iverest, Ivy Dry, Calamine lotion...they are all anti-itch creams. They don't really do anything for getting the poisonous lotion off your skin which actually forms Poison Ivy.

Well, my wife is the one with the problem so I kinda doubt she would have the issue of anything falling off but thanks for the advice.

She's feeling a little better this afternoon. She bought some of the Ivy Dry and that seems to really help.

Earplugs.

What?? Oh, those were for you so you wouldn't hear her complain.

Seriously, theres an astringent, I believe it's called domeboro. I used to get the PI really bad when I was a kid. Used to work well for me. You make a bowl of the stuff as a solution and then apply with a wet cloth and let it sit for a while.

She might enjoy a Captain and coke to help ease the pain as well.
