how much media coverage was there for john lennon...who had an infinite amount more talent than MJ? I always thought that people who claim MJ was "the greatest" have very small music collections and/or extremely limited taste
what kind of coverage will there be for Chuck Berry when he goes? probably a small blurb somewhere

Louis Armstrong
these people have very short memories. MJ was born a black man but wanted to be white, isn't that quite obvious. |

I watched it, and I have to say it was a touching and very classy tribute to a kind and gentle human being, and one of the greatest entertainers ever.
Stevie Wonder's performance was a highlight, as were the speeches by Martin Luther King Jr's children, Magic Johnson and Brooke Shields. I could have done without the "We Are The World" finale. I think they should have read some of the written tributes from heads of state and artists from around the world instead. Oh, and the line attributed above to Queen Latifa was in fact from a poem written for MJ by Maya Angelou. Oh yes—the petty hater circle-jerk on this board be delighted to hear that a resolution will be proposed in Congress next week declaring MJ an American icon and national Treasure etc.

I would consider anything done by Congress in my name to be the ultimate insult. And I would wear their contempt as a badge of honor. But I suppose it's not unimagineable that they ignore their jobs for a day of speeches glorifying a pedophile. That's the gubmint we have.

I watched it. It was on CNN, Fox, HLN, etc and those are my chanels.
However, during the show, I filed all of my warantees & receipts that have been sitting on top of a file tub for 3 years. Yep, seperate files for almost evertyhing I own - it's finally done! After that, I listed about 20 things on eBay. |

No disrespect to the occasion, but I thought Brooke Shields looked seriously hot in mourning.

personally, i think some of the performances were a bit poor...
Mariah Carey for instance?? The dude playing guitar vocals? bleh. feel sorry for the kids having to go through another circus day, when they just lost their "dad"... Lionel, Stevie, Jermaine... great performances on what must be a tough day for them too... The haters... innocent till proven guilty... He did break new grounds like few others did the comparison with John Lennon? there was less Media in those days...there weren't less crowds though... ![]() Apples and Oranges.

Or Louis Armstrong...Nat King Cole...Thelonious Monk...Miles Davis etc. etc. This event appears to be one big photo op for a lot of the attendees. I mean...John Mayer....give me a break that guy is the biggest self-promoter this side of P-Diddy. Totally overrated guitarist who craves the spotlight. Here he is butchering one of Michaels songs. I will say it again, I always pitied Michael Jackson to a large degree. The long and extremely well documented history of inappropriate behavior with children is unforgiveable, unless you are in the habit of making allowances for folks with this sort of history.
A large number of truly important events have been largely ignored by the media this week, makes me wonder if they have no shame, actually more like convinces me they have none. Saw about as much of this as the OJ trial, which is none

MJ's peak coincided with the opening up of the third world. My red Chinese sister in law tells me that in China MJ is synonymous with freedom, and openness, because he was at the height of his powers just as China began to open up to the west. Asians, African, Europeans, Latinos—even Eskimos. Everyone gets Michael Jackson. That was never the case with Chuck Berry or Ray Charles etc . And that is what made him so great and so universal. That is why people all around the world are captivated by these tributes to his genious. If you don't get this—well you probably never will.

sure, pitie, and yes inappropriate for an adult...But i seriously doubt he really did anything sexual..dumb behaviour , absolutely... behind closed doors the dude was a child in a grown man's body... And he became a target for folks trying to cash in via that route (as he was in any other way(managers, record companies, ...)
I don't really morn the loss of the late MJ, i mourn the loss of the early MJ... He did break new grounds like no other black artist did, as as mainstream, popular artist, he did crossover like the others before him had not, that's just a fact. Yes , Jimmy Hendrickx and the others were liked by white folks, and sold records to others.. But they did not in any way have such a massive following like MJ did across the world, he did change policy of the mainstream media in sheer brute force... Hendrickx for instance, was huge in a small group, but he never was as popular in the mainstream as MJ.. At least not when he was alive in the days.. Hendrickx only became accepted after his death by the mainstream.. Hendrickx couldn't even get his band to be liked in America, not until John McCartney recommended him and gave it a boost...Why do you think he spent time in the UK? right, because he wasn't popular in America and got a bit more acceptance in the UK.. and he did not get nearly as many #1 albums or singles like MJ did, world wide...Same with the others... great albums, hits here and there, but not the massive world wide chart topping consecutive #1 hits. credit where credit is due.

They are the same people who don 't listen to his musics or watch his videos but have an opinion about the man. They are the people who will quickly accept an accusation as truth, but will never accept the fact that he was found not guilty in a court of law of all charges against him.
