"WHANNNNG" is the sound a shovel makes...

...when a senile old lady decides Bambi is about to bite her head off.

News video showing interviews with grandma and neighbors in link. This is not a joke... difficult to believe as it is.

Woman Accused Of Beating Fawn To Death
By Denise Yost
Managing Editor, nbc4i.com
Published: July 8, 2009

EUCLID, Ohio—Resident Dorothy Richardson, 76, said she was defending herself when she beat to death a 25-pound fawn that was crouched in her flower bed, then stuffed the fawn’s body in a cardboard box and put it out on trash day.

A widow, she said she has been defending her garden against deer for years and this time took a shovel and beat the fawn until it died.

She said the fawn’s eyes contacted hers, like he was going to jump and bite her head off.

Euclid City Councilman Christopher Gruber says Richardson told him something different.

Gruber says Richardson said she hit it once and, according to her, it screamed and she hit it two more times, then she said that what she wanted to do was put it at the end of the yard so the other deer know not to mess with her.

Gruber is now a witness in the animal abuse case against Richardson. If convicted, she faces up to 60 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

OK, I know that dear can be dangerous, but it's hard to picture a baby deer as anything but cute.

Sounds like the old biddy needs a fence.

Deer are rodents. There's nothing wrong with killing them on your own property and this old lady probably would have been in a lot more trouble, had she used a gun. Not her fault it took her so many whacks to kill the thing. I probably could have done it with one. But she's old and frail.

If she was able to walk up to it like that, it was probably somebody's pet.

Deer are rodents.

Actually they are Artiodactyla, and not Rodentia. Perhaps you were thinking of the deer mouse?

This page might help you sort mammals:

Ok, they're vermin. I view them as large rats that pose a greater danger to me and my driving. They're one of the few animals I'd not hesitate to kill and not lose any sleep over it.

25 lbs? Do you realize how tiny that is?

Anyone who would have the stomach to kill a fawn that small with their bare hands is sick or mentally retarded.

When they are that young their only defense is camouflage and they aren't bright enough to know when it is no longer working.

Check out that look in it's eye. That is a cold calculated killer.

How does a fawn's small size make it somehow less ok to kill than a rat or a snake? I don't get that. They're vermin. Sure, I'd rather shoo away any animal than kill it and have to deal with the carcass afterwards. But cuddly wuddly stuff means nothing to me when it comes to disease-carrying vermin around my house.

Indeed. Fortunately this lady used a nice beefy garden shovel. WHANNNNNG!!!!

What about chickens? They weigh less than 25 lbs, and are considered perfectly acceptable to kill by hand. Snap neck, lop off head, yank feathers, scoop out guts, rub with dried chili, and throw on a spit. Yum!

When you consider the damage they cause on cars and personal injury, people trying to miss the little critters and big ones alike. They are a very expensive pest in the yard and highway. I wouldn't intentionally kill one because they are more trouble to dispose of the carcass but I have hit one w/ my car and it was totaled. Damn near came through the windshield and totaled my wife as well.

As I said, good for the little lady.

Just be glad it wasn't your dog messing with her flowers. There was a lady down the street from me when I was growing up that would have done the same to me if I was in her flowers.

The over population of deer has become a nuisance.
