what i get for doing something nice

a little background.
we have 2 horses we keep on my neighbors property and she boards another for the girl down the street. shes friends with my daughter who is 13. her parents are hurting for money and a new tye would have to sell the horse. so last winter i bought $230 worth of hey for her horse because i wanted her to be able to keep her horse so she could ride with my daughter and their other friend. well, its been getting worse. they dont always provide feed so we end up using ours to feed their horse, which by the way, my daughter feeds theirs all the time anyway, even with their feed.

so, i had a great friday with my daughter. spent the day taking care of the horses then went for a ride with her, about a half hour too long, im still hurting. she comes to me and says they are out of feed...again. she tells me they ahve some at the house. so she calls and asks them to bring feed. no show. so we get in the truck and drive down there. well, here is where it hits the fan. while i was alone with her mother, the dad just went to jail, oh, i forgot to tell ya he is/was a hells angels member. anyway, i asked her mother, while the kids were nto around, if they could try to do better at keeping food for the horse because we have been feeding from our supply and we cant afford to do that anymore. well, she prceeded to tell me that they have never run out food down there becuase she always takes some down there. so even after her daughter said(very reluctantly) that she had run out food she still insisted that their horse always has food. this went on for a while then they said something about selling the horse. then i told her about the $230 for hay and that ronnie would talk to you about paying me back and that if they sold the horse she should pay me for the hay. she told me horses dont need hay and that was not her problem. then she proceeded to tell that her daugher would feed their horse in the morning and night and that my daughter did not have to take care of their horse any more. i told her again, that is not the problem, the only thing i ask is that you have feed for us to feed the horse and that i really did not want money because i wanted her daughter to be able to keep her horse. actually, it is much easier for us to feed all the horses at once, otherwise, we have to pull our 2 out and feed them seperately.
long story short...too late...i am now the bad guy.
gottat go.

Just curious since I don't own one, how much does the horse hay cost per horse, per month?

I own and board horses...it depends on the horse and if there is pasture or not.

In the winter, with grain, we plan on 1/3 bale plus per day per horse, again, depending on size and if the horse is being worked.

The price of hay varies by region, type of hay and weather conditions.

I grew up around horses, both my sisters were A Pony Clubbers and my Mom was the El President of the SoCal Pony Club in the late '60's, early 70's. I was Mongo the Stable Boy.

I prayed my horse days were at an end when I left for college.

Enter stage left, horse crazy daughter.

One last thing, horse women, talent level and commitment aside, are to be avoided.

My hay barn, since tidied up...good thing we grow our own

You need to say to her "Hay hay hay, this has gone far enough."

We had our own horse and used to board a few more. Sometimes the neighbors' (they were paint breeders and always had more horses than they had stalls), sometimes others'.

It took us a few years to learn this: you have to be stone-cold all business to board horses without having any issues. People who don't keep their horses on their own property simply aren't committed enough to put in the time/effort/money to take care of them. So you either end up feeding them, cleaning stalls for them, watering them, etc. etc. etc....and you never get paid enough for your trouble.

No more other people's horses on our land. Ever.

I feel for you--we've been there. BTW, I'd keep an eye on your daughter's friend when she's riding. If there was an accident I have no doubt her mother would be thinking about a way to extract some money from you.

What? It's simple. Let me explain.

He boards a horse at a neighbor's place. A friend of his daughter boards a horse there, also. He bought $230 worth of hay for his horse, even though horses don't need hay. Some guy went to jail. Some horse ate some hay that wasn't his/hers (I think). He doesn't want money, he just wants to... umm. Wait. It's easier to feed horses in a group than separately. Now he's the bad guy because.... Wait. Damn.

I think he typed that in one breath. He did something nice for the wife of a hells angel and now they are taking advantage of him. I bet he could make hay with the wife while her old man is in the slammer and feed it to the horse.

$170.00 per ton 2000 lbs

Lasts two months per horse, longer in the summer if free grazing.

Back to the subject, it is akin to loaning to your kin. You have to just figure that dough is gone. Sounds to me like this woman has more to worry 'bout than a horse, with her old man in jail. Horses are expensive, but you knew that.

It is nice to have someone to ride with though...

Horse people are CRAZY and insane. They ALWAYS treat their horses better than anyone else could ever treat a horse. This type or that type of horse person is ALWAYS wrong and NEVER knows how to properly manage their animals. It is ALWAYS someone else's issue/problem when something goes wrong. When a horse gets sick/injured/dies it is NEVER the owners fault and they should NEVER pay anything. EVERYONE ELSE at the barn is an idiot. ALL the issues could be solved IF the horse person would be in charge of the barn. I ALLOW my horses to be at the barn, why should I pay YOU to keep them on YOUR property? MY beer/cig/drug/fun/dancing/bar money is important to me, YOU pay to take care of MY horse, oh, and YOU are doing it wrong!!!!

Did I miss something? Horse people are *(#@*()$&@(#$*()@#*$)(!@#*$)(. We have somewhere between three and five horses, I just don't know which are ours and which are my sister-in-laws. Oh, and a friend of ours has his horses on our farm... At least he is less retarded about the animals than we are...

Why don't you just take over the horse and still let the daughter ride it?

Oh wait, you could be sued ... fick'n system ...

The mother doesn't want to cough up money and more than likely doesn't want to be turned in to the humane society for abusing the horse.

i paid $7 a bail delivered. i can only haul about 20 bails in my truck, plus the girl next door bought some. i think i bought 60 this last time, 20 bails per horse for about 3-4 months. so in the winter with feed, it costs about $100 per horse to feed. so about 5 bails per horse a month....cant remember. i just buy it when my daughter tells me we need.
