it was one long breath. i am at work and had to go. i did not go back and read it, now i am afraid to.

readers digest version.

theywerenotkeepingtheirfeedbucketfulloffeed,sowewe rehavingtofeedtheirhorsefromoursupply.wheniaskedth emtokeepmorefeedtheir,iwastoldtheyhaveneverrunouto ffeedandthatiwasalier andtheyneveraskedmetofeedtheirhorse.

one more time

they were not keeping their feed bucket full of feed, so we were having to feed their horse from our supply. when i asked them to keep more feed their, i was told they have never run out of feed and that i was a lier and they never asked me to feed their horse.
i never asked for money, until she called me a lier, then i asked to be paid back if they sold the horse. all i asked was that they provide me with the food for their horse.
my daughter feeds the horse most of the time anyway. it is easier for one person to feed all 3.
even when we asked them to come down and feed, like when my daughter os gone, they do not always do it.

its not my property. i set it up so the lady that owns it could board a horse and make money. i i maintain it and do all the big work on our 2 properties. plus her daughter has a horse to ride.

right now i am trying to get her lawn sprinkler working. it has not worked in 7 years. i got lucky and found the supply line, it was broken and burued, her ex broke it when he, get this, he took the lawn pump when he left. all the sprinkler heads are about 3 inches under ground. this turned into a lot more work than i thought.

So do the horses eat the hay or do they lay on it or what?

I don't get horses. I've had fun riding them on trails and what not but I just could never see owning one.

Just how badass can a Hells Angel look on a horse? How long are his buddies going to wait around for him to catch up?

i never would have thought twice about one either. my daughter loves them and i enjoy spending time with her and the horses. i have only been on them about 10 times now. but its about spending time with her. plus, she has no interest in boys what so ever. when she is happy, i am happy.
they are kinda fun to have around.

thanks. its really been bothering me, and my wife. i think about the example the mother set for her daughter by calling me a lier over nothing. the daughter knows the facts, in fact, i think she feels ashamed to come down when she knows she has to use our food.

Not sure if I understand, but it sounds like the problem is with the boarders taking your hay for their own horses.

If so, think of the big picture.
-How much is daughter into the long-term horse thing vs. your time and energy?
-How much does it cost to board them in total? Do other boarders charge more in fees? Any other options?

Nice pics. Might be best to just let this blow over, and don't get involved with other families dramas.

im trying to let it blow over. nothing else has been said and i dought there will be.

they were not providing feed and my daughter was feeding their horse our feed. horses need some type of feed and hay. not so much hay in the summer if there is grass. the feed is what costs the most. 50lb bag around $17. about 3 bags per horse a month.

i bought hay for their horse last winter. i told the father i spent $230 on hay but i never saw any money. i did not expect to either. i did it so the little girl would be able to keep the horse.
i did not bring it up again until she made a big deal about the feed issue. even if i did not buy hay for their horse, it is too much trouble to seperate them so their horse would not eat what we put out for ours.

i board mine for free. i take care of things around the house and yard for her plus i put up the fence for the horses.
the lady that owns the property lives next to me. she is a single mom. the other people live down the street.

Is the lady that owns the property where you board your horse (and who is also causing you to use your feed and hay to feed her daughter's horse) charging you to board your horse there?

If so, based on what I think I understand about some of what you've said, you should get a break on the price based on the fact you are doing upkeep on the property and putting out food for her daughter's horse.

So you either end up feeding them, cleaning stalls for them, watering them, etc. etc. etc....and you never get paid enough for your trouble.
I grew up with horses, and there's nothing i rate higher then a horse. As a kid, all summer was me and my horse, i'de sleep in the grass and Apache ( her name , she was a pinto colored pony, from the states, not mustang though) would often lay down next to me and sleep there... I even had an accident, where Apache got jumped by something while i was close by, and i got kicked in the jaw, double fracture, full memory loss, the works... 1st thing i did when i came out of the hospital weeks later... was get on my horse and ride ... no saddle, no reigns...

That being said, i no longer ride for exactly that reason. I don't have land to keep one around the house. I'de have to put it up in some kind of stable, under care by somebody else. And i've seen to many weekend riders, that go to the place, ride weekly for the first months, then winter comes, hardly ride again, next summer, maybe twice a month... It sickens me to see those , often very nice horses, go to waste. Even my dad at some point after the divorce at the point where i wasn't speaking with him anymore for some other douchebag antics of his, stabled his horse in that place, and i simply went nuts when it turned out they were using Duchesse for bloody novice horse lessons, simply because he had not payed the stable bill... You have to keep in mind, Duchesse was pedigree, one of the best jumping horses in the region, she'de jump 1.8 meter obstacles, military obstacles, wet obstacles , whatever...And a very very sensitive horse. I went nuts when i saw them novices stomp their heels in her sides and yank the reigns simply because they were to green to command a horse of that caliber the right way.

So now i haven't ridden in close to 10 years, because there is no way i will pay a manege to ride worn down mentally numb horses, and there is no way i will buy my own horse to subject it to a stable , where i can't take care of it the way i think a horse should be taken care off. I could in theory buy a horse and build me a small stable in the back, but i know at the moment i have other priorities in life...

Same reason why i don't have a dog, i just can't go walking them every day, i'm single, and i get home late...

maybe this summer i'll ride, might visit my uncle in south of France, In the Camarques, he's good friends with a Manage there, a bull/horse ranch, them folks are like the classic cowboys in the US.. Maybe i can go riding with em for a day... I'll be saddle sore for the next 2 weeks... But it would be worth it... If they let me ..

(Maybe they have an unwed daughter there... now that would solve ALL my problems!)

Sounds all too familiar, Stijn. I grew up around, and love horses as well. Alas, my life took another direction, and they are simply not in the cards for me anymore.

They are a lot of work. They are why we now have cars; we can just put them away when we are done and move right into the next pressing need in our busy lives. Not so the horse; if one cannot live with it, be with it every day, and nurture it, it will never be "your" horse. It will "belong" to whoever does that for it.

I'm lucky in that my brother-in-law lives close enough to occasionally visit, and he keeps horses. There is always one that needs exercising. Granted, my riding sucks anymore - it's a bit more than riding a bike, where one can quit for 30 years and hop right back on. But I get around, and have fun. And help feed and water them when we are done...

Stijn, it must be tough not doing something you love but I respect you greatly for choosing to do things the right (IMHO) way.

I hope someday you do acquire enough space to keep your own.

Right now, for us, we have deprioritized my wife's equine pursuits and have focused on raising our little one(s). So now I get to mow the grass a lot instead of picking up horse poop.
