The Blue Angels just flew over my house

How cool is that?

I'm sitting on my front porch with my laptop surfing the Pelican forums when the Blue Angels do a banking turn right over my house. Car alarms are now going off in the distance. I think they woke some people up downtown attending the Ann Arbor Art Fair.

Navy Blue Angels to thunder over Willow Run Airport in July, Yankee Air Museum officials announcehttp://www.mlive.com/news/ann-arbor/index.ssf/2009/04/navy_blue_angels_to_thunder_ov.html
Quote:
The biggest news Tuesday was the return of the Blue Angels to the Thunder Over Michigan air show sponsored by the museum and Chrysler Jeep Superstores. The air show will take place July 18-19 at Willow Run Airport.

.................This will be the only appearance by the Blue Angels in Michigan this year

i love those guys. when ever they come to town they fly over my house too as i live under the flight path and they buzz my work office. i cant get enough of them. that sound the F-18 makes is to me, the greatest sound ever. Thunderbirds kick azz too though i prefer the F-18 to the F-16 any day

if you like fighter jets, check this film out

F18 sound is nice, but the F14 engines were somethings else.. the whine and spoolup sound... it's like comparing a 3.2 with motronic, to an mfi powered engine...

F-18s have just never done it for me.

Love the F-16 to death though. What a drop dead sexy airplane.

they are sexy, i just love that wide twin engine look...to me the F18 looks very frightening and tough where as the F16 looks more gentle and too small

the above linked film features the F14 if i recall correctly

About 10 years ago, when I was still working for the General (GE that is), they were flying directly over our building. We work on the top floor (5th, but the floors are very high, so more like a 10 story building). We went up on the roof, and these guys were less than 100 feet above us. Incredible! The Airport/Air National Guard base is only about 1 mile away. They were practicing the low level fly overs.

Again, incredible!

too bad youtube doesnt have the entire film. the navy gave incredible access to make this film and it is very inspiring...the cockpit footage is unbelievable and some of the shots at high altitude from outside the plane left me wondering how they got the shots without crashing

While my son and I were at the McConnell AFB air show several years ago, my wife elected to go to the mall near the base with our then infant daughter, fearing that the air show would be too loud. She unfortunately walked out of Dilllards when the Blue Angels passed overhead in formation, and at nearly tree-top altitude. I love watching any of those groups perform, simply awesome.

The Blue Angels flew over downtown Ann Arbor again today, again very cool. Some really tight turn arounds at low level.

Good thing the U of M hospital helicopter was still warming up on the ground. I would not want to see them cross flight paths.
