Corvette ZR-1 3.3 0 to 60

I think I saw one of these on the road yesterday. I'm not a Corvette fan but I noticed something a bit odd about it. It didn't look like a Z06, though.

The car has brakes from a Ferrari FXX. Is that a bit odd considering that Corvette race teams run in the American LeMans series against the Ferrari?

Was there a link or picture?

That's okay, Ferrari has been using the shocks from Corvettes for years....

Hey, they're damned fast...

Now let the flamers enter...all spouting nonsense about Porsche's superior quality, "soul", and other intangibles. Bottom line, this 'Vette will smoke any Porsche street legal car made today.

Just anticipating...I've read it here before whenever somebody posts about a fast Corvette...the "sure it's fast, BUT...." comments.

I'd love a chance to drive that thing. Impressive numbers.

Granted, my experience is limited. The most impressive car that I've driven is my old '88 Carrera. Based on my limited experience, if I had the choice of owning a new GT3 or a new Z06, I'd want the GT3.

Yeah, I've got the chest hair to pull off 'Vette ownership. I don't have the big gold medallion necklace though.

Hmm, let me try to head some off at the pass. Don't they use the same suspension as an old horse cart? Hey, they are the same as a Cobalt inside!

Well, I'm sure there are reasons that they are so cheap relatively, but I think the new engines, even though they are a small block Chevy, aren't as low tech as that would imply. Aren't they full dry sump plus a bunch of other racecar/high end sports technology.

Absolutely sick. Top Gear did a GREAT segment on this badboy. I'm not a Corvette fan, but I would definitely own one of those...

I didn't post this to dog on Corvettes. I just thought it is a cool car. My new job takes me to the area where GM/Chrysler/Ford test cars so my head has been on a swivel all week, just taking in the scenery.

The area is also known as being one of the wealthiest counties in the country so it's a whole new world for me.

Impressive, but no way I'd buy a Government Motors/UAW car - I don't care how good the numbers are.

I'd love to drive that ZR1! We saw two of them today at Cars & Coffee (along with three Carrera GT's, btw). Who can fail to be impressed by that monster?

Paul, Jeezus man. Who the heck pissed in your cheerios? It seems you rarely have anything nice to say anymore.

I think Paul is right on the money. Had he not said anything, this thread would have been full of people knocking the Corvette.

Hang in there Paul, I've noticed it too.

Finally a legit reason!

Well, the fact that you're posting it on the OT section of the largest Porsche board on the planet might have something to do with those types of comments.

Maybe you'd be happier on a Corvette board?

Nope. Never had a corvette. Cindy refuses to bleach her hair & get a boob job. I have owned Porsches.

You are flaming anticipated flamers, do I have that right?

More to the point, why do you care that folks in a Porsche forum would rib a Corvette? It's like posting info on the new Yankees pitcher in a Red Sox forum and getting upset when they tear him down.

For the record, looks like a mighty impressive car. Some of the styling cues are a little cartoonish, but the mechanicals are stunning.

I wonder what else in the $100K range buys you?

I'd love to know if a $50K Cayman with $50 in mods would. Or a $50K 993TT with $50K in mods.

Yes, the Corvette has incredible numbers, but if I had the money, could I stomach the styling? Not really.

Car guys here have been pretty supportive of the C6-generation Corvettes, well, except for some ribbing of the Corvette-owner stereotype. I guess some of you guys have thin skin for Corvette comments. Kinda funny seeing this kind of thing on a Porsche forum.
