PETA wants to call fish 'Sea Kittens"

At least PETA is good for a laugh now and again.

This is from our local paper, The Half Moon Bay Reveiw.

PETA fishes for change in Pescadero
Proposes 'Sea Kitten' for beach name

“Gone Sea Kittening” may not have the same ring as “Gone Fishing.” For People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, that is the whole point.

Last week, PETA sent a letter to California State Parks’ Director Ruth Coleman in an effort to rename Pescadero State Beach to Sea Kitten State Beach. Hoping to contribute money to keep Pescadero State Beach Open, PETA was offering the funds on the condition that the beach is renamed and fishing prohibited at the site.

“‘Pescadero’ means a place to fish and PETA thought we could make it a place for fish and not a place to fish,” said Lindsay Rajt, manager of PETA’s campaign department.

“(This action is) part of our larger Sea Kitten campaign,” she added. “It’s a light-hearted way to get (people) to think that if fish are sea kittens, they experience pain or distress as kittens. For that reason it’s no more reasonable to inflict pain on fish than any other animal.”

The Sea Kitten campaign has been one of PETA’s most pressing endeavors as members attempt to prevent what they see as cruel treatment of fish.

“At Sea Kitten State Beach, humans and fish would be able to enjoy the beautiful California coastline without having to worry about the beach closing or about being impaled by sharp metal hooks,” wrote PETA Director Sarah King.

California State Parks will likely decline the offer, said State Parks Deputy Director of Communications Roy Stearns.

“(PETA is) asking us to rename an existing park that has had a long established name,” he said. “Our longstanding policies strongly discourage renaming any park for any reason. Parks are named for a geographic feature or person”

Citing a lengthy process in the naming of parks, Stearns said that the offer, while generous, would not be appropriate. He also added that State Parks do not regulate fishing on its beaches, leaving the responsibility to the California Department of Fish and Game.

However, Stearns did say that in the parks’ current financial situation, his department was open to any and all suggestions regarding funding.

“In these times, we are open to anybody with a creative or unique idea for helping us keep parks open,” he said. “Thanks to PETA for this one, but under our long-established policies, I don’t think we can accept this one.”

Does it irritate anyone else that every single PETA press release is instantly given nationwide coverage?

Can we rename PETA "a huge waste of oxygen"?

PETA-tards are typically one step below fish on the I.Q. scale.

It could really backfire on PETA if that makes people want to try eating regular kittens.

So is kitten chowder next? Kitten sticks, kitten almondine(a favorite of mine) poached kitten with dill sauce. I would think the fur would be a problem if you were eating kittens

Instead of "tastes like chicken", I will now use the term: "tasted like kitten".

It's no good: we don't like to eat cat because they're cute and ... fuzzy. If fish were cute and fuzzy, we'd have them as pets, not food. But since they're cold and wet -- and delicious -- we eat them.

There's a big PETA headquarters building in Norfolk, right on the water. Every year, there's a big fishing tournament that happens right in front of their building. You can practically walk across the river on all the boats. I don't know how many people actually catch fish, but ... is that really the point?

Back in the day, when I crewed on a superstock car at the local track, everyone in the pits called the hot dogs "pups." I'm sure we weren't the only ones . . .

Take that all you People Eating Tasty Animals.
