How's Your Weekend Going?

Mon through Thur are supposed to be 100F and only cooling to 70F at night. My central air is not working and the repairman is coming . . . Friday. My neighbor is away and I'll have to water his plants 2X day (he has some incredible bonsai and I don't want them to suffer). My lettuce is bolting, my peas are turning yellow. We have some friends staying over tonight and I've been working all last night and this AM preparing dinner. Ceviche, gazpacho, vichysoisse (sp?), brined and grilled chicken breasts stuffed with basil pesto, tomato pesto on pasta, grilled veggies drizzled with olive oil. The menu is complicated by the fact that the wife is a vegan, the husband is a carnivore, and everything has to be cooked on the grill and the one side burner. Arrgh. I'll be glad to go back to work on Monday. At least it's air conditioned and I don't have to feed anyone.

Everything just peachy-keen 90 miles south of you John...central air working perfectly...my only major exertion is moving sprinklers every 4 hours. Watching racing on the tube.

Kids just got back from a week with my Dad...their first extended car road trip together.

They had a ball.

They missed a phenomenal storm that kicked up on the Potomac earlier today. Easy 50kt winds, horizontal sheets of rain. The Potomac looked like the North Atlantic.

Nice to have the kids home.

S. Central TX is in the D5 extreme drought category and has been for months. 3.09 inches of rain This Year !! and the last 6 months of 2008 were way below normal for rainfall. Temps running 5+ degrees above normal. Tanks are all dry and lakes are heading that way. Daily high temp. records have been broken 27 times and counting.

I don't know if it's global warming or not but this &(%# has definitely got to stop.

Hot as balls here today. I rode about 100 miles in peak heat yesterday and had to cool off at Jamba Juice before getting home. Went shooting with the wife today to get her prepped for her CCW class and range qual.

Except for ALOT of rain lately, Michigan has had great weather. Temps have been below normal which I like. We bought a portable A/C in the spring and have only used it a couple of times.


Sleeping weather has been nice as well with temps in the 50s and 60s with low humidity.

I ran over a baby alligator with my lawn mower. I'm pretty sure the mower is done for and bone fragments cut the he!! out of my shins. Yeah, it's been ******* fabulous.

We are having the coolest July in 120 years here in mid-MO. Days in the mid 80's nights in the mid 60's. Spent this weekend tearing off and rebuilding the back steps. Did it all in cedar. I can't believe how expensive wood is now a days!

Dunno Kurt - I rode past Jeff. City area twice in the last week heading from Lake Cle Elum to Louisville on my bike. Was cool on the way down, but had temps over 90 just north of there coming thru on Friday. (Took Hwy 36 east and I-70 west).

My weekend? Rode a m/c 2399 miles from Louisville in 3 days. Temps in the 90's each day - 97 today (Sun) 40 miles from home, was 91 when I arrived back.....I'm bushed.......

Building practices are 20/20. Mabye we will learn, probably not.

Get them out of the direct sun. Make a frame and cover with plastic, and/or add drip irrigation.

What, no invite? Tonight was marinated flank steak, greek salad, and vegetable kebobs(peppers, onions, pineapple, seasonings, o.o.) followed by the better-half's cake with infused jello topped by strawberry-koolwhip topping. Light as a feather and just easy to eat the whole pan as one piece.

Turns out, these vegans don't eat much. Apparently, nor do their husbands. After the appetizers they were nearly full. Portion sizes for each successive dish started converging on zero before we were even done, so we ended up lopping things off the menu. And four adults only managed one bottle of wine. Gaah. Give me my usual gluttunous friends, who actually eat.

Ha! No doubt. This weekend was unwind-time at the beach for me. Sorry yours was not so smooth.

I was cooking too. Threw this together Sunday night. Fresh grouper. Portobella reduction w/shrimp, shallots, garlic, some chardonnay. Garnished with chopped home-grown basil. Green beans out of my folks' garden, and whole wheat pasta salad with home-grown cilantro and jalapeno.
