Thanks for coming back with the identity of the floors. I wasn't agreeing with doug fir because of the sap wood. Spruce out here is not very nice.

OK here is the finished floor,

Rarly8 had a pic of his and Narbel headers sitting on my recently refinished floor... I could not find the pic so I reached out for someone to send it back LOL

anyway... M&K/Rarly8 headers, Narbel headers, on a freshly finished vertical grain spruce floor....

Hemlock was commonly used in the northeast and pine should have been readily available. This does look alot like heart of pine to me but I am NOT an expert. Either way the floor looks good and interesting!!!

Check out a Sherman Williams product called Dura Shield. It is used in low traffic areas like museums and hotels. Check with a local dealer and see if they can get it. If they cannot Sherman Williams might be of some assistance getting it in your area. They want to sell it only to professionals but will really sell it to anyone. It took me quite some time and writing the president of the company to get the regional sales *(&#$(*#@&$$#@)*(#$ to allow my local store to carry it. MUCH better product than MinWax and it goes on easier and lasts longer. I have used both and will NOT use MinWax on the floor again!

I did use Dura Shield Satin as a finish, it has a slight amber cast to it that doesnt bother me to much.... One thing I didn't like about Dura Shield is that though is is a high build finish, it not really self leveling... in some places I can see marks where I stopped of started with the pad..

In all Im happy with the finish..
