There's not much to take apart. I either cut a lip off or leave it. :D

Damn thing will stick out 1" the way it is.

When I got my car the plate was gone but the holes were there. One bracket from a non PP place (didn't know about them yet) and a few bends later. Like I said if the new plates look like the old ones, the new ones are shelf-ware.

I was driving back to the Valley from Glendale on Friday afternoon. While I was stuck in stop-and-go traffic, I had the opportunity to eye (in my rear view mirror) the cars zipping by in the carpool lane. Probably 30% (!) of them only had a single occupant (unless there were little kids in the backseat sans bulky child seat).

Why don't they go after that easy target? Hard for someone to fight that ticket. It's a fat, pricey ticket, good for revenue generation. And I'd imagine it's actually a law that the majority (those of us suckers stuck in traffic) would actually like to see enforced.

The mounting holes drilled into the valence don't match up with the holes stamped into our license plates, so some sort of intermediary adapter is necessary unless you want to start drilling holes into your car.

No, but I have no problem drilling holes in my front plate. Screw the DMV.

My fave are the guys/gals who run the "thin blue line" logo in place of a real front plate.

slodave 10-22-2011 09:51 PM

Never seen that.

Just the kids who keep their front plate on the dash. Also not legal.

Noah930 10-22-2011 09:58 PM

Someone needs to devise one of those James Bond rotating thingies (lightweight, of course).

"What missing front plate, officer? It's right there under the front bumper."

slodave 10-22-2011 09:59 PM

Hah! I was actually thinking about that. :D

vas930 10-22-2011 10:31 PM

Sounds harsh.

slodave 10-22-2011 10:39 PM

You have to run a front plate, Vas?

Noah930 10-22-2011 10:41 PM

Nevada and Oregon don't, IIRC. One of us really needs to buy some property in one of those states, so we can avoid pesky front plate and smog laws.

slodave 10-22-2011 10:43 PM

It seems it's optional in Nevada. If the car was not designed for one or the dealer did not supply the brackets... How convenient.

Hell yes.
Our road rules are full on.
Fart and you can loose your licence. :)

I was just showing some support. ;)

slodave 10-22-2011 11:34 PM

Does it have to be an official plate on the front or can you get away with a sticker?

vas930 10-22-2011 11:40 PM

It must be official.
You cant change the colour or size.
Even if its dirty you get a fine.
Most fines out here are $320 and a 3 point loss.
If you loose 12 points in 3 years you loose it for a year. :)

slodave 10-22-2011 11:44 PM

Hmm... This one does not go on your record unless you don't pay. As I read it, you can actually just pay an extended fine out here and not bother fixing the issue. :)

slodave 10-22-2011 11:46 PM

To beer or not to beer... I feel like a few more..

vas930 10-22-2011 11:52 PM

Beer up, mate.

Here you get a yellow decal on your car that can only be removed by a mech.
Then you go to a state office to get your car back in the system.
If not, you loose your licence.
If you remove the yellow decal yourself, you loose your licence.
If the cops see you driving a car with the yellow decal, you loose your licence. :)

slodave 10-22-2011 11:55 PM

That settles it.. I'll be back in a few. Gotta walk up the street.
