I know this for a fact, from experience.

And I have no use for them either. Too wide and I already have the ones I need.
But still, this is a far cry from the prices you guys have over there. (but shipping would be a beotch for overseas buyers.

Hahahahaha, that was the first thing Pete said yesterday when we met, "Hi, I am going to take your wheels" :)

Geronimo '74 06-20-2011 01:21 AM

I'll be taking the ducktail.
Just so you know

Rick V 06-20-2011 01:40 AM

Says the unarmed man to the redneck with a full arsenal (just so ya know). Besides what are you going to do with a duck tail on a car with no engine or trans? :)

Geronimo '74 06-20-2011 01:49 AM

Well, if Pete takes your wheels, you'll have no need for a ducktail either.....

I need it to keep the gaping hole in the back covered. My car feels nekkid.

Good morning dudes.

I am going to take my El Camino to a shop just a mile from here to get my new tires mounted up. They have all the fancy tire mounting equipment and can handle the enormous tires some folks want. My 14 inch El Camino wheels look funny on the tire changer that can handle 22 inch rims.

They are the shop that mounts my Porsche tires. They can do the "super duper" mount where thay mount the tire on the rim in a position to use the least weights. They will rotate the tire on the rim to get the perfect position for balance. Most of that is not necessary on a 14 inch steel rim on a vehicle that never goes above 85 MPH. It makes a BIG difference on the 911 however.

Geronimo '74 06-20-2011 05:05 AM

morning Glen.
Everybody here on the forum is whining about the poor selection of tires in 16 inch diameter and is going to 17.
How is that for a 14 inch wheel?? :D Probably not too many cars around with 14s

RKDinOKC 06-20-2011 05:25 AM

The Hunter road force balancer will also tell which wheel to mate with which tire to use the least weigh to balance, if the tires are all the same size.

There are only 2 different tires available in the stock size for my Range Rover with 16 in wheels.

Going from a 16 to a 17 with the same type of tire as possible typical requires a wider tire, adds unsprung weight, adds .1 seconds 0-60 acceleration, takes more feet to stop, and adds .1 g cornering according to a test done by Car and Driver. Going from 17 to 18 also goes to a wider tire, but you can also get stickier tires so even though the unsprung weight goes up the acceleration and braking are the same as the 17, and you still gain another .1 g cornering.

Porsche-poor 06-20-2011 06:23 AM

morning all.

GH85Carrera 06-20-2011 06:31 AM

G-man there are only three brands of tires made in a 235-60-14. The old tires were real junk. They were very noisy at 65 MPH, with very poor traction expecially in the wet.

The new tires are BF Goodrich and I think they were made right here in Oklahoma.

Geronimo '74 06-20-2011 06:32 AM

I'm going from 16 ( Fuchs) to 17 (Ruf) but I'll put some Toyo R888 on them. I'm looking for dry weather and tons of grip.

GH85Carrera 06-20-2011 07:19 AM

My 911 has 15 inch Fuchs. I bought the last two rear tire in North America. They had to come in from Canada. I don't know what I will do for my next set of tires.

porsche4life 06-20-2011 07:38 AM

I'm going from 15 to 17 on my corolla. Mostly bc it has 15" steelies, and we got some nice 17" scion alloys. The guy we got them from had dismounted them to get the the TPS sensors out. So I need to get them mounted and take them to shepherd for a balance.

Porsche-poor 06-20-2011 08:02 AM

How are you doing to day Sid? Any better?

Rick V 06-20-2011 01:33 PM

Evening guys

pete3799 06-20-2011 01:40 PM

Great meeting you, Beth, and Lana (love that color) yesterday and thanks again for buying breakfast .
I almost didn't recognize you without the pearls and lipstick:D
You two need to head north so i can return the favor.
I'm sure the sun came out as soon as i left.;)

Porsche-poor 06-20-2011 01:44 PM

Evening? Man I have 3 more hours.............now I won't get a thing done for the rest of the day. Thanks and I mean that in a good way.

Rick V 06-20-2011 01:47 PM

Well here on the right coast it is evening, and before you whine about having 3 more hours to work as I am sitting at home, remember you get to sleep in 3 hours later then me. (That makes sense doesn't it?)

Porsche-poor 06-20-2011 01:55 PM

It was ment in a good way. I'd rather chat here than work anyway...........

Rick V 06-20-2011 01:59 PM
