A Flood Watch is in effect for Albemarle, Augusta, Greene, Madison, Nelson, Page, and Rockingham counties until 7 PM. A Winter Storm Watch is posted for Augusta and Rockingham counties from 11 PM to 1 am tonight. Rain will change to snow later Wednesday evening and night. Higher elevations along and West of the Blue Ridge above 1500 feet will see the highest amounts of 3 to 6 inches, with accumulations a little lower along the Valley floor. Some big changes set to unfold as we move through the mid-week! Periods of rain will continue tonight, with more widespread and heavier rain at times Wednesday. Additional rain could approach or exceed two inches. Some localized flooding is possible. Temperatures will remain mild through Wednesday morning, but fall into the 40s during the afternoon. Wednesday night, as a storm develops to our south, the rain will continue, but begin a changeover to snow from West to East. At this time, the Blue Ridge Mountains and Valley will likely see accumulating snow of several inches, mainly grassy areas, with most roadways, just wet. Rain mixing with and changing to snow across Central Virginia, could bring a slushy accumulation of an inch or so, especially for areas near and along the Route 29 corridor. The rain and snow is expected to end well before sunrise Thursday, with clearing skies. A dry and chilly air mass will dominate the rest of the week with daytime highs in the 40s and overnight lows in the 20s. Today: Rain, heavy at times, falling temps. Tonight: Rain, changing to mix/snow, primarily across the higher terrain and valley, lows 29-34. Thursday: Clearing and chilly, highs 42-47. Friday: Mostly Sunny and chilly, highs 44-48. |
