Now your talkin'

Flieger 07-27-2012 02:17 PM

I really hope that Rennsport Reunion stays at Laguna Seca for a while. I am already eager for RR5. I will make sure to go to the whole weekend then and bring a better camera. :)

Flieger 07-27-2012 02:19 PM

Bruce Canepa seems to have his Laguna Seca gearset worked out well. I think some of the cars at RR4 had LeMans gearing.

Flieger 07-27-2012 02:27 PM

I love the sounds those cars make. Laguna Seca is great for hearing them, too.

Nevermind the terrible camera work. :(

The Mrs. Wants her car washed tonight so it will be clean when she gets back from her trip. That is only going to happen if she helps. It is about 100 degrees out there now. At least the driveway is all shade at this time of day.

slodave 07-27-2012 05:41 PM

Whoo hoo! Heading out with Alarick to see BHT, Cracker, and Blues Traveler. Turns out BT is the main act.

GH85Carrera 07-27-2012 07:11 PM

Have fun Dave. Try to stay away from gang members or folks with prison ink.

no expectations. i am just surprised that a guy your age wouldn't have an emotional response to the wall.

poker. i've been playing poker, again. took 3rd in a live tournament of over 30. god help me. i don't lose money, so that isn't the problem. the problem is that my mind won't leave it alone. i can't sleep.

when i first heard the wall, i was ten, right when it came out. all my reactions were emotional. i didn't have the cerebral equipment to parse it. frankly, it changed my life. it led me to trains of thought, which i tried to discuss with my mother (oh, boy) that nearly exactly mirror that of nietzsche. among other things.

further, my relationship with my parents, starting at a really really early age (i could tell you stories from when i was about two and three) was very schizoid. strange and surreal don't quite do justice to the things i experienced vs. the things i was supposed to believe that i experienced.

the wall was both liberating and frightening. the truth had set me free, you see. nothing is more terrifying than freedom.

fkn hell, i need to copy this somewhere for later.

Now that I have thought more, I guess I had some reactions in how I differ from the film. I am good friends with my dad, but I have drifted away from my mom over the years and now our relationship is rather cold. Partly due to her becoming so fanatical about the Catholic Church. She used to be a little more open-minded. Now I think she is going off the deep-end. Like becoming a creationist, which is not what they teach in Catholic school (which is intelligent design). And I have been drifting further and further away from the Church as I have from her. I am not sure who started first and whether I drifted from her first or from the Church first but all these matters have become intertwined now.

So I would say there is a wall between me and my mother, so hearing "Mother" is kind of the antithesis of how I feel.

perhaps i am not getting your point of view re. your mother and 'mother'. my interpretation of the song is that his mother is smothering, she is part of the wall, then the song ends with her hanging up. to me, that sounds exactly like your description of your mother. perhaps i have the song all wrong.

comfortably numb is interesting, in that it was written by gilmour for his solo stuff and wasn't used there, thus it was recycled for the wall. it certainly fits the opera that is the wall.

the SR71 was built with that tool.

you better just get it done.

I may have interpreted it wrong then. It seemed like he loved the comfort of his childhood and mother but I have only seen the movie once.

I am not sure I understand what your family life was like from your description. I looked up schizoid but the second part of the statement seems like more than that. However, you do not need to explain more if you do not want. But it sounds like my relationship with my mother is not so bad after all.

hah! i still don't understand what my family life was like.

nynor 07-27-2012 08:28 PM

max, i think i used the word 'schizoid' incorrectly.

what i meant was that my experiences with my parents vs. what they were telling me i was experiencing, specifically with my mother, did not jive. there was a huge disconnect between my parents' reality and my own. frankly, my perception of reality was MUCH more accurate.

nynor 07-27-2012 08:37 PM

actually, schizoid is not far off the mark: i felt completely isolated within my family.

It sounds like some depressed guy speaking in a movie or trying to make a powerful opera. It leaves me wanting to get past the depressed ramblings and get to some good music.

Comfortably Numb excepted.

At least that is how it is for me. It is just this slow, depressed sound. It doesn't move me, just annoys me. Sounds suicidal.

Flieger 07-27-2012 10:03 PM

Wish You Were Here is like the blues. Powerful emotions from suffering but great music used to convey it. The Wall is just suffering all around.

Morning Y'all
Anybody want a cat that is programmed to go off at 4am?

slodave 07-28-2012 12:37 AM

Long night, I've got comments for this Max/nynor/Floyd thing, but my head is still spinning from tonight's concert. Input when i am more coherent.

Morning, Rick. :)

Rick V 07-28-2012 12:39 AM

Morning Dave, sounds like you had a fun time

No pix of the Barenaked Ladies. They headlined, but Alarick and I had ducked into the BHT tour bus by then and also the backstage patio, talking with the guys from BT and a couple from Cracker.
