Don't all wars start over small chit like stealing poptarts?

azzarule 11-02-2012 03:25 AM

Morning Dave, Rick, Jim and who ever is around.

Pop tarts, can't come at them, too sweet and processed for me to even contemplate. One of the Oz mums gives them to her kids for breakfast, yuk, and then wonders why they are hyped up on sugar, thing is they are soo skinny, but another couple of years of good ol southern fast food and they will be well rounded me thinks.

Have to say Dave, your knobs are looking good............ :)

did that come out right?

I love poptarts but they are a kabillion calories so I avoid them at all costs.

morning Tweez,

well I look like I must be eating them, but I don't, god if I did, I would be even fatter, I have to watch everything I eat, its what happens when you hit 50!:(

Mornin' tweeze, Azzy. How are you two today?

I haven't eaten a poptart in at least 3 decades. Like you said Azzy, too sweet and processed. Of course, I'm thinking of walking over to Au Bon Pain for a piece of pastry to go with my coffee here at the office. :)

tweezers74 11-02-2012 04:11 AM

I love Au Bon Pain but we don't have them in AZ. I ate there every day when I was working at the Cleveland Clinic for two weeks. Yum!!!

Pop tarts. I don't think I have had one since I moved away from home. That was long long ago in a galaxy far far away. No wait that was Star Wars. I need another cup of coffee.

Good morning folks.

I have never heard of a palmer. It is a local thing?

When I was growing up in the midwest, we called them elephant's ears. Palmier is the actual name for them. A few months back on one of my SoCal work-cations, I bought some elephant's ears from a local bakery. They were much larger, more squished, and had cinnamon in them. Not as good as the palmiers, IMO.

Morning (or should I say evening?) Jeff!

G'day Jim, well and truly night now and in another hour and a half we'll be looking at morning.

Been out on the turps with some work mates tonight. Doing the rehydrate thing before the snoring thing ;)

OK Jeff, I figured out you're saying that you're doing some drinking with coworkers before calling it a night and getting some sleep. But what the heck does "out on the turps" mean? You guys in the southern hemisphere talk funny. :p

The hip is doing fine. In fact I head off to my hip Drs. office in about an hour for a final visit. I am expecting him to give the the official release from hip restrictions. I am not supposed to bend my leg more than 90 degrees. So If I am sitting down I am not supposed to lean foreword or raise my knee up and make the angle of the hip more than 90 degrees. I am cheating every morning putting on my socks right now.

I want to start working on range of motion of my leg. I sure don't want to dislocate my hip, I am am cautious.

The good news is the hip pain is GONE. Before every step with that leg hurt.

SO you are out with a bunch of turnips? Strange. :D

Outback Porsche 11-02-2012 05:24 AM

hehe, you nailed it Jim. It just means alcohol, and usually a large quantity has been had.

this is from here Meanings and origins of Australian words and idioms - Australian National Dictionary Centre - ANU , and best describes it's meaning;

turps: on the turps

Drinking heavily. ‘Turps’ is an abbreviation of ‘turpentine’ and the phrase alludes to the use of spirits such as turps and methylated spirits (‘metho’) by down-and-out alcoholics. In the earliest uses of the phrase the alcohol referred to is a spirit such as gin or rum, but more recently it has referred to any kind of alcoholic drink, especially beer.
