Morning everyone and thanks for the votes. I don't think the fiance and I are going to be doing any crazy pictures. The piggy back ride is the furthest we are going. |
I did the dragon in 2008. This is one of my favorite photos I took of my car. It was just a hours or so after the dragon.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1366892276.jpg This is another favorite. Heck I have tons of favorites of my car. :D http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1366892336.jpg The dragon was empty except for a few dozen motorcycles. |
I need to add that to my bucket list:
#132 Drive "The Dragon Tail" |
It is not really that great of a drive. Lots of turns in a short road. The roads around it and the Blue Ridge Parkway are far better. There are roads in Arkansas that are orders of magnitude better than the dragon tail. There is one road in NE Arkansas that goes into Missouri that is so curvy it made a lot of the drivers car sick, and that road goes for miles and miles. We took one road out of Clarksville north and after an hour we had not seen one other car except the ones in our group. The only bad part was when we finally got to a business with a restroom it was just a single bathroom and we had 18 cars and almost all the cars had a couple.
The Dragon is worth doing if you are going to be in the area or if you are going with a fun group of people. I would not make it a single destination trip. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1366893759.jpg When I went through I saw the photographers but there was not a good place to turn around. I finished the tail, turned around and stopped for the contact info to buy the photo. Finished that direction and then I went back the other direction to get to my destination. I am glad I went but it was only because it was right on the way. |
Morning all. So happy its Thursday........

Which road in NE Arkansas, Glen? We have a niece in Arkansas, so it would be nice to hit some twisties next time we're there. We've driven some of the roads in the North-Central part of the state, back in 2007. Pretty nice. :)
Our route: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1179971368.jpg Made a stop here: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1180151950.jpg |

That's one trip I regret not having made. |

Kind of like goign to Venice. Do it once, but expect to be disappointed. |
Don't tell me that. I've always wanted to go to Venice. (We're talking Italy, right? Not the beachside neighborhood in Los Angeles.)
|
Yup, Italy. It was my experience, but yours could be different. Like anything, going into it with a preconceived notion sets you up for disappointment.
If I had to do it again, I'd stay Padua and train it to the island for a day trip or two. You should go, but remember it's a 400 year old Disneyland with no rides. Except maybe a vaporetto. |

Bring a barf bag if your wife gets car sick. It is a long drive, about 90 miles total and 75 miles is the fun part. |
The other road that was just over the top is way north of there, almost to the state line. It does not even have a hyw number. It is up by Eureka Springs. It is something like Road KK.
|
Thanks for the tips, Glen. The only thing that makes driving in the Ozarks suck is coming up behind a logging truck. S-L-O-W.
