I was originally quoted $100 - $160 for the odometer repair and I told them how it was reading slow. Ended up with a $300 bill the first time around and they said it was tested and ready to go. They claimed some internal housing was broken as well and a short on the board. So I bit the bullet and paid up. Get it back in my car, odometer now work and trip working. STILL READS SLOW. I check other things and everything checked out fine, so I return the speedo to them. They claim there is more broken in it and I get it back with an additional $100 added to the bill, but now the speeds are as claimed. I am really pissed off, haven't paid the additional $100 and not planning on it. I am half tempted to say screw them and send it to NHS to have it done right.

$160 to fix the odometer? To replace those little nylon gears? Holy mother of dry and deep I am in the wrong biz. It's a thirty min job. I have lost count of how many I have done and I usually get $50 plus parts and feel like I am ripping them off. Hell I even pull the unit and reinstall it.

Just pull the speedo back out and give the little screw a slight turn counter clockwise, If I remember loosening it makes it read faster. Re install and retest. You should be able to get it done in about three times.
Tell the other company to go pound sand and demand a refund

I don't remember reading about an adjustment screw for the electronic speedos

Rick V 05-15-2013 05:10 PM

I assure you I adjusted the speedo in Lanna, a stock 82SC

Okay, So my speedo is pissing me off. Odometer wasn't working and speedo was reading rather slow. This low reading was a percentage difference. Then speedo gets fixed by a local company that has been working on these for over 20 years and come highly recommended. Some other internal housing was cracked as well. Get speedo back and still reading slow, replaced speed sending unit, cracked dif open to check magnets. Everything is normal. Send speedo back and they find more wrong with it. 3 weeks later, get it back today and WTF.

Following breakdown of speed. I use a gps speedometer on my smart phone that is spot on. Confirmed with radar highway speed trap displays.

GPS 25mph - car 34mph
GPS 35mph - car 41mph
GPS 45mph - car 49mph
GPS 50mph - car 53mph
GPS 55mph - car 56mph
GPS 60mph - car 60mph

I was going to say the gain was off but that sure as hell ain't linear.

Andy911sc 05-15-2013 05:28 PM

I know it isn't linear.... which is pissing me off even more.

Alright, I'll take a look at it and talk to my mechanic because I was going through him for the speedo repair with this other company. He was pissed that they tried to bill me another $100 and told me to ignore it and he was going to talk to them. Now when I tell him how jacked up the speed is he will be even more pissed. Tony at Translogg is a good guy that takes care of his regulars and really knows his porsches.

Pretty much

My point though was that Bacon simply is.....it is the beginning, the end and everything in between. Bacon is the answer to all of life's questions

Bacon is OK, but I have never thought is was all that great. I prefer ham.

I got to play in the garage some tonight. The fuel filter is replaced, the injectors are in place and the intake is done. The weekend will be interesting. I have big plans and hopes for the engine.
