doner kebabs are yummy,

usually lamb sliced realy really really thin, load thousands of slices on a large spike, turned on a rotisserie and slowly bbq them, slice thinly down the spiked meat, serve with yummy sauces lebanese or turkish style, on a flatbread with lettuce, fresh tomatoe, yummy.

Little family run cafes or 'fish & chip' shops run by Greeks. The Greeks call 'em Souvlaki or Yiros (depends upon which state you come from). There's probably a difference between the two, but I don't know what that is.

we have them, too. although they are called 'gyro's" around here, pronounced yee-ro. there are a few greek places that make amazing gyro's, close by.

azzarule 07-07-2013 06:09 PM

I will have to keep an eye out for le 'gyro's' although I haven't found any Greek places ibn southern Maryland

Doner Kabob is pretty much the same as a Greek Gyros.

spiced mixture of lamb and beef cooked on a vertical spit and sliced off as it cooks served on flatbread with lettuce and tomato.

I like it with onions, tomato and cucumber dressing.

A Pizza place close to me serves them with potatoes that are baked, battered, frozen, then deep fried. Very tasty.

They used to put gyros meat out on their lunch buffet on Thursdays.

Also have a pretty good broasted chicken.

azzarule 07-07-2013 06:10 PM

and went to see Lone Ranger yesterday, funny. I like to have a laugh at the pictures.

There are several gyro places around town here in OKC. Some greek, some not.

The place close to me is called Sicilian Cafe and is owned and operated by immigrants from Iran.

There is another restaurant called Meiki's that has burgers, pizza, pasta, gyros, and the best Calzone in town.

RKDinOKC 07-07-2013 06:18 PM

oh man, now I am going to have to go to Meiki's for some Calzone for lunch tomorrow. It's way across town too. Thanks a lot foodie's.

azzarule 07-07-2013 06:19 PM

Well all this talk of food is making me hungry, so I better go to bed before i eat anything!!!

I am already too short and too wide!!

Night all

I know. I want one now too.

RKDinOKC 07-07-2013 06:23 PM

Just google your town and gyros, you will likely find delis, pizza joints, and greek places with gyros on the menu.

Flieger 07-07-2013 06:24 PM

When I hear kebab I think of skewers with meat, sweet chilies, and tomatoes on them and grilled.
