Yep it gonna be warm. One year ago on we were hitting 113 in August. It is just 72 now with a high of 95. Way better than 2012.

Rick V 08-08-2013 05:28 AM

80's today with high humidity for us.

RKDinOKC 08-08-2013 05:59 AM

Nice.....

I was digging through more stuff from my parents house. I found a letter with the address of the house that we lived in in Pearl City Hawaii in the 60s. 1146 Hookahi St. I punched that into Google Earth and the looked around for the Pearl City Elementary. I used to walk with my brother to 1st grade there. I remember it as being 3/4 of a mile or so. It is 1,200 feet away.

I punched in the address of the house we lived in in San Marcos Tx. 537 West Hopkins St. We used to ride our bikes the couple of miles to downtown to go to the movies across from the courthouse. It is just under 1/2 mile in reality. We would ride our bikes up to the movie theater and just leave them outside. They were always there when we came out. I never had a house key because we never locked the house. That would have been when I was in 3rd grade.

I am thinking they have changed the address method used, dug up the houses and moved them. The only other possibility is I was wrong and that cound never happen. ;)

I found this picture of my brother, myself and my Grandmother. My dad's mom from April 1961. The pineapple fields went on for miles. What was not pineapple was sugar cane. I suspect it is all houses now.

I am the younger brother so with that clue you can figure out which kid is me.

RKDinOKC 08-08-2013 12:19 PM

I thought the dog had that happy tired look.

RKDinOKC 08-08-2013 12:21 PM

That picture must have been taken while you were still shaving.

This is up above Tripler Army Hospital looking at Pearl Harbor. The smoke in the background is the sugar cane fields being burned to get ready for harvest. They burned off the fields all the time.

For all those of you that have been to Hawaii this is what it looked like in 1960. It has changed more than I have. :D

Tripler is where my grandson was born three years ago. Beth would kill to go back to Hawaii.

Jim Richards 08-08-2013 01:04 PM

I haven't been there since the early-to-mid-70s.

GH85Carrera 08-08-2013 01:24 PM

I was last there in 2001. It was a lot different. ;)

My wife has been back once for a conference. Her mom came along and shared the hotel room. They had a great time. I did not want to put up with the LONG flight over.

Our first flight to Hawaii was in 1959. We rode in a C-54 facing backwards. It is unpressurized so we stayed at 5,000 feet and it took forever and a day. We returned on a cruise line the Matsonia.

This is a picture of them unloading our car.

It is a 1960 Plymouth Fury. I wish I could get that car back in that shape. :D

Beth is loving the old pics of Hawaii.
Thanks Glen

I'm with Beth. But my wife says it's too far from her family on the East Coast. :(

Rick V 08-08-2013 02:17 PM

I am sure I would get island fever. I mean simply my drive to Seahawks last weekend was multiple laps around Oahu

Understand and respect that. But I think I'm on the other end of the spectrum, and really wouldn't mind it. And as diverse as big cities like LA are, Hawaii is one of the few places (other than specific neighborhoods like Chinatown) where I feel very much at home. For once I'm not a minority.

Rick V 08-08-2013 02:30 PM

Where is your family on the east coast?
