Missus is off to work. Lets see what trouble I can get up to for the next nine hours :)

RKDinOKC 04-21-2014 03:06 PM

Betting you can get into a LOT of trouble in 9 hours.

Page 2 thread rescue.

Lu just left to go out of town for work and then to see family. So, I'm a bachelor through this weekend. Now where did I put my toga?

Toga Toga Toga!

When I see the caller ID of a few select customers I will answer the phone here at work as "Toga Party Central" One of them came over once recently and asked were the party was. I told him now that he is here we are set. I showed him the beer in the fridge and the 10 lbs of peanuts we have on hand for munchies. Then he just ordered a boring aerial of a 9 square mile chunk of Oklahoma. It was a boring toga party, but profitable.

Good Tuesday morning folks.

Porsche-poor 04-22-2014 08:40 AM

Morning all. I succeeded in smoking out the garage after 5 months of sitting idle the 911 cranked right up and blew crap all over the kids Rav4.

Now to attempt the brakes. Stupid question but what is the funny 20 degree gauge thing for?

Jim Richards 04-22-2014 09:06 AM

When rebuilding calipers, you align the pistons as shown below...

Porsche-poor 04-22-2014 09:09 AM

ahh! In that picture I can see what might be a notch in the piston the picture I was looking at last night that was not there. now it make sense.

Don't think I need to do that but the pads are up for replacement.

Jim Richards 04-22-2014 09:13 AM

Yeah, the notches in the piston help you align the bugger.

Porsche-poor 04-22-2014 09:17 AM

cool now who wants to come over and watch me break something that's not supposed to break.

RKDinOKC 04-22-2014 10:50 AM

Let's see, new pads, been sitting, messing with rotation of pistons...guess is...piston seals start leaking.

porsche4life 04-22-2014 10:53 AM

Yep. Might as well order the rebuild kits now. ;)

Porsche-poor 04-22-2014 10:57 AM

see broke already!!!!!

GH85Carrera 04-22-2014 11:05 AM

The rebuild of the calipers was something I found to be easy. I made a gauge and rebuild them with no issues. It helps to read all the tech articles in the tech section on Pelican for ideas. I used just a little air pressure to pop the piston out. Very little pressure!

Get everything very clean and then cleaner yet. After several years they are working fine so I guess I did it right.

Also get the lubricant for re-assembly.

Jim Richards 04-22-2014 12:29 PM

That's how I approached the caliper rebuild, too.
