No kidding. This winter, more specifically this expected blizzard, will be great motivation to get the hell out of the DC area.

RKDinOKC 01-22-2016 05:20 AM

Awww, Enjoy it as your last Snowy Winter.

GH85Carrera 01-22-2016 05:27 AM

I admit 100% ignorance about the makeup of the DC metro area government. I would guess it is NOT made up of intelligent conservative planners but that just a guess.

The point is how bad did the government screw up with preparations for a one inch snow? I heard some people did not get home from work until morning. There was essentially no road preparation at all. Now the blizzard is coming and they will have a legit excuse for bad roads.

Atlanta had a major slick road problem last year or the year before I don't remember which. I can give Atlanta a bit of a pass since they don't get much ice and snow. DC however is prone to a bit more snow and ice every winter.

Tax dollars at work, er waste.

Jim Richards 01-22-2016 05:35 AM

There probably was an underestimation of the need to salt/sand the roadways the other evening. We were home just as the light flurries hit and so we didn't have to deal with the huge number of incredibly shatty drivers that infest this place.

I used to live in Atlanta. They get ice storms most winters, but they seemed inept or unwilling to really deal with it. Just my 2 centavos.

morning all. no white crap here just liquid sunshine.

flipper35 01-22-2016 07:58 AM

Jim, the only issue I see is a mis-timing by a couple weeks of a work-ation.

Rick, you need Cash's truck back. Not to drive, but to cover your driveway and scare the snow.

No kidding. I sure screwed up.

Rick V 01-22-2016 09:12 AM

Well closed the shop at noon and called it a day . The new kitty has never seen snow and I think he wants to kill it. Nother better than a I'll tempered. 15lb cat with no grace trying to attack nature from behind a window. I would chuck him out in it but he knows where I sleep

flipper35 01-22-2016 09:14 AM

Jim, blame it on the weatherman. Or HAARP.

flipper35 01-22-2016 09:15 AM

And they say elephants never forget. Cats get even.

Jim Richards 01-22-2016 09:21 AM

The snow started here a few minutes ago. OH, NOOOOO, IT'S THE SNOW-POCALYPSE!!!

Jim Richards 01-22-2016 09:23 AM

One of my neighbors is having pizza delivered. Even during a catastrophy, it's reassuring to know that hot, tasty pizza is just a phone call or online order away.

GH85Carrera 01-22-2016 09:27 AM

Around here when the forecast is for more than a trace of snow the local grocery stores goes nuts. Folks start buying "the three whites" bread, milk and toilet paper. All I can figure is they go home and make lots of French toast and then get diarrhea.

I just stock up on beer. :D

We are supposed to have blue skies once again after a week of overcast. Mid 60s on Sunday. I can handle that.

Jim Richards 01-22-2016 09:28 AM

I could see myself being an Okie this weekend.

GH85Carrera 01-22-2016 09:32 AM

Yea, I gotta get the Elky washed, and mount the new wheels on the 911. I took em back off to get the fancy "Roadforce" balance job done and it has been cold enough on weekends I did not feel like messing with it.

Mrs Carrera has several honey-do projects for me as well.

Oh Haha 01-22-2016 09:53 AM

sunny skies here.sorry.

2 winters ago it was just brutal. Lots of snow and extreme cold. I was working at the medical waste company and would go in on Sundays to shovel around the trucks and start them all up. This would almost guarantee I would not be getting 4 am calls that morning because the trucks wouldn't start. I hated paying drivers to sit around while waiting for the mobile fleet repair guy.

I also did my time working in the semi-trailers loading/unloading our containers when it was -10 degrees, outside, in the dark, and with no heat source.

Now, anything above 20 degrees doesn't seem too bad.

flipper35 01-22-2016 09:55 AM

We will be above freezing this weekend! WooHoo!

Around here they don't make a run on the stores unless it is going to be successive days of blizzardness. The worst storm I have been through I couldn't get out of the driveway for 2 days but dad could get me the second day as the V plow had gone by. Took the plow a really long time to get from the neighbors 1/4 mile down the road to our house. If we had needed anything the roads were clear the second day. I just had 5 and 6 foot drifts to clear. Had the farmer neighbor do it with his skid steer.

Porsche-poor 01-22-2016 09:56 AM

51* and slightly cloudy.

Jim Richards 01-22-2016 10:00 AM

Yeah, I remember what it was like living in the frozen tundra. Here, it's a ****storm when an inch of snow falls. We're supposed to get maybe a couple of feet of snow between now and sometime on Sunday. It's going to be a great weekend to focus on learning Spanish. iNo me gusta cuando nieva!

porsche4life 01-22-2016 10:05 AM

Supposed to be in the 70s all weekend here! ;). We are considering going to visit the snow on Sunday though. Got to get in some snowboarding this season!
