My only recent bed rest time was four years ago for my hip replacement. They kept me in the hospital for 4 days and packed me up and sent me home on Friday morning. Then I started having a reaction to the blood thinner. My leg started to get HOT and red and swell up. I was not willing to wait until morning so back we went to the hospital. The bastages made me wait in the ER for a long time until the pain meds had worn off. Then a ER dock comes in and thinks the wound might have an infection. He clips off a few staples and starts poking around with a q-tip. I was in agony. I told him to stop that until I get some pain meds. It had been 6 hours and even without his poking around I was overdue for some meds.

They finally put me back in the very same room I had been in earlier that day. 5 days later I went home for good. Now all I have is a pain free joint and a 8 inch scar on my hip. I was in a walker for a week then just a cane. It was just a few weeks before I was back at work. I would have gone crazy with anymore time at home.

Hey, Monday is done!

Anybody know 2005 Honda Odyssey transmissions?

My niece was driving back from Texas and as they went over the Arbuckle Mtns the transmission started slipping so bad it wouldn't go any more. My brother went down and they put tranny juice in it and it was completely empty, took almost 4 qts! It had had time to cool so they tried it and were able to drive home to here in OKC. Said it acted like it was slipping a little a couple of times so they dropped it at a local garage. Mechanic says it needs a new tranny for $3800.

Brother said he googled and they claim when the tranny gets hot it actually boils fluid out the air breather for the transmission.

Would you put a new/rebuilt tranny in,
or replace the fluid and filter and see how it goes,
or would you just sell it and try to find a more reliable vehicle?

Think brother is leaning towards the last option.

Too bad it didn't happen a couple of weeks sooner, they could have bought my Cayenne S.

GH85Carrera 08-30-2016 05:22 AM

The $3,800 is likely just an off the shelf new transmission. It is wild how expensive automatic transmissions are. I paid more to have a 2004R built for my Elky that the transmission overhaul on the Porsche. And 915 Porsche parts are expensive.

An 11 year old Honda appliance is likely not worth much more than the $3,800 total. I have no real idea however.

RKDinOKC 08-30-2016 05:39 AM

the $3,800 is rebuilt installed. New is more like $4,500.

The KBB trade in value is $4,500 or $5,600 private party. Think that's why brother Tom is thinking they ought to get something else.

My other brother Bob has the same year and model of Honda Oddity he inherited from a cousin's estate.
Told brother Tom maybe we could borrow Bob's Oddity swap transmissions then give it back. LOL.

morning all. I get to play with "mm" today. The fun part is the engineer did the as-built in imperial dimensions so I get to convert everything.

Oh Haha 08-30-2016 06:19 AM

LALALALALALALALA.

I'm ignoring the Odyssey transmission fail talk.

So, how's about that weather?

Porsche-poor 08-30-2016 06:21 AM

cooling off and damp I the am.

We do our mapping in US feet as a default. Some customers want it in meters. It is just a button click so no big deal for us. If we assume it is in feet and it is actually meters it may well show up out in the ocean. It is a shame the rest of the world does not do it in a nice logical system like imperial. Who wants something logical and easy like a base 10 measurement system.

Porsche-poor 08-30-2016 06:40 AM

oh lets say when your in Austria and took an imperial tape with you.......

RKDinOKC 08-30-2016 06:56 AM

Wayne, just keep the transmission fluid level checked and you should be fine! They ran it bone dry.

That would be illegal likely! :p

Since we used to make a lot of prints at a certain scale like 1"=400' or 1"=880 feet we have a lot of engineers rulers around here. They are 12 inches long and have a triangle shape with 10th 20th 30th 40th 50th and 60th of an inch. It is not often anyone in the regular world measures something in 40ths of an inch. The rulers don't even have the standard divisions like 1/4 1/8th and 16th. We have dozens of them. And an old slide rule!

RKDinOKC 08-30-2016 07:39 AM

Oh boy. There is a cayenne down at the shop that the guy ran it out of oil and just drove it until it wouldn't run any more. They said it has been repoed and has been there a couple of months without being picked up. Mine is missing the jack and some of the tools, they are going to see if they are in that car for me.

RKDinOKC 08-30-2016 07:41 AM

Having worked as a draftsman, have some of those "Scales" as well. There are 6" and 12" rulers and have an edge used to draw straight lines, typically for school.

There is much debate about changing the trans fluid but for now I'm leaving it alone. We don't tow with it or drive through mountains so we have that going for us.

Took the Suquinox back to Sears this morning. The steering wheel was not centered and it would have driven my wife nuts with me complaining about it. I told the service writer at least twice yesterday to have the tech center the wheel. When we left yesterday it seemed good but once I made a few turns it was off. The truck does ride nice again and tracks straight. and they fixed wife's tire for free. Nice.SmileWavy

My parents had one of the smaller Chrysler Le Barron wagons. It would overheat on a real hot day. When I drove it to GA when going thru the mountains between Knoxville and Chatanooga I had to turn the A/C and heat both on high so the AC would cool the heater water in order to keep it from overheating. No such issue driving it over the big hill called the Arbuckle Mtns.

Niece didn't have the issue until they ran it dry.

On the Interstate coming into San Diego from El Centro on I-8 the elevation goes from 30 feet below sea level to over 3,500 feet. The long mountain passes had places to pull over and get water for the radiator. There were several cars overheating going up that mountain pass. The outside temperature is 100 or so and the hill is steep. My trusty 911 went up the hill with no issue and never got above 210.

I presume the more modern cars can do it with no issues. I did that trip in 2007 and several of the 10 or 12 year old cars were pulled over with steam blowing out. No steam from my 911!

the technical tern for those is "scale" not ruler.

Yea, those scales RULE! We have tons of the cheap plastic 12 inch ones and only 2 or 3 of the high dollar steel ones that are 24 inches.

Now we just set the scale on the computer mapping program and press the print button.
