Sounds like a 27-foot U-haul truck I once rented. That thing was a blast going uphill in weekend holiday stop-and-go bridge traffic.

porsche4life 11-14-2010 08:26 PM

Oh you wimps... One of our trucks you have to know what gears you have to grind to get it to downshift into other gears...

We've driven it like this for several years!

slodave 11-14-2010 08:28 PM

Wimp my ass. I drove the 911 over an hour with only 3rd and 5th, with the occasional 1st. Could have ended up tearing up the tranny on that drive - not a cheap fix.

Noah930 11-14-2010 08:30 PM

Heh heh. There was also the time the shift linkage fell apart on my (first) motorcycle in college. I was stuck in 2nd gear all the way home.

porsche4life 11-14-2010 08:44 PM

Thats what you carry a leatherman for.... Reach down and shift it!

Schumi 11-14-2010 08:49 PM

I'll make it back to MO some time next spring- probably March-April. I'll have enough time to stop in OK and see the track car progress & let you flog my 986 before heading on my way.

Dave- I'm to bet that your 911 is much more exhilarating to AX than my pedestrian 986.

I'm considering getting into an early 3 liter slantnose. I always wanted a slantnose as a kid.... I'm starting to think 'why not'.

porsche4life 11-14-2010 08:50 PM

Just let me know. My folks have plenty of space, if you time it right we can make an autocross here....

But were all in different classes, so you run with the Boxster crowd, not many, but there are some, I just don't know the their times. Yes, the 911 may be more exhilarating, but I have no basis and I'm not the greatest driver. :) There's a guy with a 914 (not 6), he's fast! Beats my times by a good margin. Anyway, just wanted to let you know that there was an AX and that you were and are welcome to come down and have a long fun day.

Check out the pic on FB I posted of the black slantnose turbo. Evan gave some of the specs on it.

Noah930 11-14-2010 09:01 PM

Ah, the 930. What an autoX demon. Like a sheep in wolf's clothing. At least the way I drive it.

porsche4life 11-14-2010 09:06 PM

Do you need me to come out there and give it a proper flogging? Just so it knows what its like to be driven hard? :D

Geronimo '74 11-14-2010 10:33 PM

Ugh, over two hours of slow traffic.... normally I get to work in less than one....

Morning guys

slodave 11-14-2010 10:37 PM

Morning. I got stuck in traffic on the way home this evening. Had to pee, soooo, I saw an In-N-Out, stopped and had a 4x4. Nothing says heart attack like 4 patties stacked on top of each other with 4 slices of cheese and fresh fries.

Rick V 11-15-2010 12:27 AM

Morning guys.
Mike you should Auto-X the little Boxster, I love mine, and they like to have the crap flogged out of them

WOW. are you serious $75 bucks to autocross?

I am autocrossed out today. Two LONG days is enough for me. The BMW guys were driving after sunset.

Good Monday morning guys.

G-man I saw your part of the world had some flooding. Is that why it took you two hours to get to work? I love my 12 minute commute.

RKDinOKC 11-15-2010 05:33 AM

It got so dark so quickly I only got one good picture at the autocross...

$60, $75 for late entry. You guys get a good deal on your track, we have to pay the City of Orange County (I think they own the land) or whatever entity owns the land, not sure if the club has to provide insurance. But we also get unlimited water to drink, sometimes sports drinks, trophies.... It's a lot cheaper than a day at Willow Springs!

GH85Carrera 11-15-2010 10:35 AM

We all know how lucky we are to have our track. We have about 20 to 30 members that are the core of the club. With just that little group we we made enough money to donate 5 grand to a charity two weeks ago. The autocross is the major source of our club's income.
