morning all. both of our dogs are trainable if we spent the time but I'm not sure about the Lab he might be on the stupid side.

Good Morning.
My first golden, Penny was sooo smart. And more important downright eager to please. One only had to show her something new twice at the most. More often once and trained, sometimes she learned watching others. At a back yard party once people were getting beers out of an ice chest. Looked at her, pointed at the ice chest and told her to fetch me a beer. She trotted over to the chest, opened it, pulled out a beer and brought it to me. The rest of the evening she was fetching beers for people at the party. I never really trained her, she was just copying what she saw people doing where I pointed. My second golden, Camber was not so smart and not at all eager to please. She was an alpha dog too. What makes an alpha dog is they have their own agenda and are very very stubborn to do whatever it is on their agenda. If she was doing something I didn't like I could distract her away from it for over an hour. But once I stopped the distraction she would immediately go right back to whatever it was. Pepper is smarter than Camber, but not as eager to please as Penny was. Main thing I am working on with all the stuff I am training her is to look at and pay attention to me. Example is playing fetch. Penny would look at me and wait for me to say fetch, even if saying fetch was after the object had already hit the ground. Camber would start off in the direction of where you were going to throw it, then turn and say I'm ready before expecting me to throw. Pepper, as soon as you put your arm back to throw goes down like a cat ready to pounce looking towards where she thinks it is going to land and waits for the object to fall out of the sky. |
Buenos Dias, y'all. We had a nice rain overnight and light rain on and off this morning. It still looks like we might see more rain today. Fingers crossed.
Our dog hates the rain, hates water. Except in her water dish. She's a nut! |
Jim, what brand/model is your dog again?
Our first lab was smart and intuitively knew most of what you were trying to tell her but I was never able to teach her to speak. When we first got her she already knew how to walk by my side and when we gave her a paper plate with table scraps we could tell her to pick up her trash when she was done and she would bring the plate over. Our beagle is smart but is also a stubborn, bullheaded moron. He is also pretty gentle. He has a bark collar but it only slows him down a little when he decided to bark at the ground. He can learn a trick if it suits him or gets him a worthwhile treat. He eats to savor his food. Our current yellow lab is instinctually smart but otherwise is the "blonde" people make jokes about. She is the only dog I have seen that can fall over when she is already laying down and has so little grace it is funny to watch her. She can learn but it takes a while and she is heavily motivated by play. She only eats so the beagle cant have it. |
Pepper loves when it is just sprinkling. Runs around in it like a nut. Once it starts raining she is done. Good thing she also likes getting toweled off. Even presents each foot to get it dried, or if muddy I use a little tub to dunk and wash the mud off.
Penny was my dish pre-wash. Put anything down with any kind of food and tell her slick it up and it would be spotless. Also If I gave her anything that would leave a mess on the floor, even crumbs, she would leave slick as a whistle. Both Camber and Pepper you have to clean up after. It was not just the tricks and etc that made Penny such a good dog, it was the little stuff. When cooking I never had to worry about dropping anything. Most times it wouldn't make it to the floor. If it did, it got slicked up. |
Feeling 5hittier than usual today...
When they say someone passed or passed away, does that refer to that someone's muscles relaxing and them pooping or at least breaking wind right after death? When they say someone expired, does that basically mean the same as above only they went past their sell by date and smell bad too? When they say Kicked the Bucket does that refer to it smelling like they kicked over their commode bucket from the outhouse vernacular? Did God make the human body do that to make the body smell bad so you would at least move them out of the living room? Do they call it the living room as a warning to keep the smelly dead corpses from piling up in that room? In the Bible people were told to ease themselves outside of the village. The part of your property the city owns and runs sewers under to carry your wast outside of your village is called the easement. |
Personally I have never like or used the term "passed away" as a euphemism for died. It makes the persons death (or passing) sound like i was a fart or a burp or a football game.
I do understand the desire to make the death of a loved one sound less harsh. They did not pass away or pass GO or pass a football, their life functions ceased. That is the definition or death. Maybe I am just to analytical. |

Oh there are lots of crude way to say it for sure. I usually just stick to they "died."
|
I get calls on my cell phone asking for my late Mother, God rest her soul. Got one this past Tuesday. She had her own phone and was never associated with my cell phone. I usually start sounding like I am crying and say, She's dead and it was horrible. She sat straight up in her death bed and said It's been two years quit calling!" then hang up.

My son had been instructed to play "Another One Bites the Dust"
|
I don't answer my cell unless it is someone I know. if it is important they will leave a message and I can call back.
|
On the iPhone you can punch a button and answer with a text message. "I don't know who you are" is a good one. I also have "I'm busy, call back later." I think it also sends the call directly to voicemail. Whomever it was asking for my Mom kept calling back. So I had some fun with them.

Just got of a very bad call with Godaddy. They killed my SSL certificate I use for ActiveSync (phone) email. They never sent notice of it being up for renewal.
I called and they sent some codes I had to put on the DNS as a txt file to verify I am the owner of the domains before I could install a certificate. I have never had to do this before. The act of installing the certificate on a server requires a request and delivery that verifies the servers name and IP via DNS so other verification is not required. Any way I get that all done and login to have godaddy verify I have access to DNS on the domains in the certificate and it won't except my password. Have it send a new password link to the email on my account and the link does not work. I can't get into my godaddy certificate account. Call them again. They tell me to go to the web site and submit a new password request. It does not work so they send one themselves. It of course works. grrr. I go to the domain ownership verification and it does not verify to domains that aren't hosted on godaddy. I have one that is. They say it i my DNS's fault. I tell them I am not very happy with godaddy. First not sending me renewal notice, now this verification stuff. He claims the sent the verification. I ask when. He gives me a date and time. Have him wait and I generate a report from Exchange online and no emails from godaddy until the one yesterday telling me my certificate had expired. He tells me they sent it. I said, no your records show you sent it. I don't show any record of receiving anything from godaddy. He said well maybe it was caught in spam, I said that report was the microsoft 365 report of all emails sent from Godaddy to our domain including all spam and virus. So the fact that isn't working shows poorly on your service. Then he starts about how this is the way verification is done for certificates. I said oh so you changed it. Say it has always been this way. Told him I have had Godaddy SSL Certificates for 20 years and have NEVER had to do a DNS txt file verification. Not in 20 years. So I have him look at my DNS host records and he does not see any txt records. Claims that my host is not doing things correctly and I should move all my domains to Godaddy. Said I had no problems with the records and txt records required for SPF and to setup Microsoft 365 with my DNS provided so it seems to me my problem is Godaddy, not my DNS host. He tries to keep telling me my DNS records are not being broadcast and I just say whatever, and hang up. Right after hanging up I double check to make sure I had the txt records enter then click on the godaddy verification on more time. Surprise it verifies. I am thinking Godady is doing all this to try to get people to move their services to Godaddy. AND making me call them to do anything. like the password change not working. Think I will be looking for another Certificate provider. Host my domains at the place I do because it is cheaper and better service. The only reason I put my certificates on godaddy is the only default trusted certificates for an iPhone was Network Solutions and Godaddy at the time. |
iaint that sophisticated. I just dismiss it.

If yea wanna have some real fun, go lay on yer belly in the yard and stick yer hands down into the well box that is full of spiders and creepy crawlies. Then use every ounce of strength and loosen the filter pod to replace the filter.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1509659117.JPG This is the old one that started not filtering much at all. There is a union coupling at the bottom that is for the back wash water dump. After every yard watering the filter back washes to flush off the sand. At some point in the last year a hole developed. It had been on there for nearly 10 years and only cost $28 to replace. To remove the housing I have to loosen the coupling at the bottom and then rotate the filter housing. The challenge is the union coupling had two big flat surfaces just nice and tight. I have to bend the 2 inch PVC pipe just a little to get the pod to rotate, and it has been there for a decade. After I get it apart of course getting it back together nice and tight is almost as hard. Hopefully it will be another 10 years before I have to do it again. |
On my home water system I replace all the filters once a year.

But you filter does not back wash after every use. |
It backwashes after every 800 gallons and uses salt to help clean the filter when it backwashes.
It actually has two so while one is cleaning it uses the other. Was told I need to update my softener system, but they want more than I paid for it new. Originally got the system for my brother with MS. Before the softener the water would make him lose mobility while taking a shower, think it was the clorine. He had gotten a softener on his house in Atlanta. He didn't need on on our house just 6 miles away, guess the water is from a different source here. |
