I will refrain, just thought Brent would feel the camaraderie and not get quite as frustrated. |
Most of our staff doesn't know what OWA is either, even though we show them all the time and push the icon to their desktop. We don't use it much, but there are some instances when the staff is using a "workstation" and have to check their personal work email.
You have to be salaried to be able to get email on your phone and most of the director or above level use their phones so they never bother with OWA. Our Exchange is still local. For now and based on your experience, maybe forever. I do like the idea of someone else being responsible for DR and outages though. |

Everyone in the company now has an Office365 account. Almost half have OWA only access. Think only one or two have ever logged in. They are supposed to be using it to track their learning and safety training.
Everyone gets phone access. And we don't use MDM, Mobile Device Management. Don't know why. Makes sense to me to be able to lock or wipe just company data on someones phone or home computer. |
no one gets access to my personal phone or home computer.
|
People that approved to use phones, you must own the phone. The company pays for a minimum smart phone only, anything else you pay the difference. That's why you have to own the phone.
Home computers, some of the IT staff user their own home computers, but everyone else gets a company laptop and drags it back and forth. I am the only employee that officially works from home. I have my company laptop and 3 mac minis that only have work stuff on the time machine backup on one of the external drives connected to one of the mac minis. So basically have no work stuff on my home computers. Do have personal stuff on my work laptop though. Good thing I am not into those big shrimps, "prawnography." |
ah so company assets now that I get.
|
I have the VPN client on one of the home computers but it is also on my work laptop. Because I am on call I do get a stipend for my phone but I do not use the exchange client for work email on it.
Our policy is no one gets to connect any home computer to work other than OWA if they so choose. If they want to work at home after hours or on the weekend they take the work issued laptop with them. Sorry for all the tech stuff. This is one of the only places I go where I can vent and have someone understand what I said. |
vent away!!!!!!

That is basically what we are supposed to do, but enforcing it has been pretty lax.
Many times I am so glad I am not a part of the IT cubical farm. Pretty sure I wouldn't be employed there for long if I was. When I was assigned working from home they were tight on space, let me work from home and put two people in my old office. |
every year here they have this thing called a pride award. you get your picture taken, you get to drive one of the big bosses personal cars for a week, they take you to drinks after work hours.
Well this year the ride is a Hummer h3. Last year is was a Camaro, large hunk of crap. This year its just bigger. I told my boss I never want to win. I drive imports for a reason. |
Buncha years ago company had a picnic where they closed of a street and had all kinds of carnival stuff, and a bunch a BBQ. As part if it they had an employee car show. I took the 928. It was the only non-american car. They had Mustangs, Street Rods, Hot Rods Novas, Corvettes, A new Ford GT, Brother's 57 T-Bird, A couple of Shelby's, Camaros, Firebirds, Chargers, Cudas, a couple of nice Classics, and some tricked out Pickups.
At one point during the day a guy reved his Harley making a bunch of noise, then my Nephew and his 6 cylinder bike, then the car guys got into it with guys starting up the cars, revving them, and people applauding. I had just put the Rear Muffler Bypass on the 928 so had to go rev it as well. I started er up and started reving. The crowd didn't just applaud they cheered and every body else stopped reving their cars. It sounded really good, almost musical. Lots of employees came over and asked me about the car. All the kids loved me popping the headlights up and down. Even some of the car guys were impressed by the factory force air cold air induction and the two stage intake plenum. A couple of days after the prizes were handed out I discovered my car had won the people's choice voting, but since it was not American Made a they ignored mine and gave it to the 2nd place new Ford GT. Every summer since they've had the same company event. I haven't bothered to enter the 928 since it's not American Made. |
Well David, you can still drive the Cobra if you ever visit SW Wisconsin. Even though it isn't an import! :)
I took mine to a car show once and to the local pre-cars and coffee type get togethers a couple times years ago just because there were people there I knew. Everytime someone heard it run they asked what was under the hood. One time there was a guy with a Chevy 427 in his replica and the guys told him he needed work on his because it did not sound nearly as mean as mine did. Mine is nothing special with a little over 400hp/360cid but the custom headers must have somehow hit some sweet spot for sound. I am sure they could be better for performance, but there isn't really much room. |
The best sounding car I've ever driven was the 1990 928 GT I had. I bought some cats used cats from the junk yard for it and hollowed them out. The rest was completely stock. The hollowed out cats made it just loud enough you could hear it while driving. Going up the the gears was so melodical it sounded like directing a symphony with the accelerator, I would get goosebumps on the back of my neck.
Really like the GTS, but it's little more growly than melodic and doesn't give me the goosebumps. Wonder if the sound will be better or worse when I get it back. It will have the GT cam, headers, an X-pipe, high flow race cats, and intermediate mufflers/resonators. Will have added the headers and a different X-pipe to fit the headers. |
When I put the dual exhaust on the Elky after I did an engine swap to the 350 it had a real bad drone at some engine speeds. I went back to the muffler shop and had him install two small bullet shaped mufflers and that stopped it. He tied hard to get me to put a loud Magnflow exhaust on it. Not interested. It does have a nice rumble at idle and sounds OK on the gas if I roll the windows down, but I never roll the windows down.
|
It didn't drone before. Understand the people with 928s and drone problems don't put the racing cats on when they do the x-pipe thing.
Before starting all this work it was just a bit too loud for my taste. Like the hp gains and tone, just not the loudness. Still have the stock muffler from before the Rear Muffler Bypass install. But it was way to quiet. It is also huge and heavy. Understand the 928 GT resonators are bigger than the GTS resonators. Maybe just need to find some GT resonators or a similar replacement. Would love to stumble on it sounding like my old 928GT! |
When Lindey's first finished the 944Turbo they put a Flowmaster muffler on the 4 inch exhaust I told them it was tooo LOOUUDD! They said they didn't think so. Before a week was up I got pulled over and given a ticket for 2mph over the speed limit. Two Miles per hour over in a 35 mph zone! It was the only ticket I have gotten in over 20 years. I asked him if the exhaust was too loud and the officer said...I don't care about that But I came from 3 blocks away because I heard you. I had just left the office, pulled from the parking lot on the the street I was one and 37 was the fastest I had gone.
Took it directly from the ticket to Lindsey's. They put a db meter on it and ended up putting a Magnaflow on to bring it down to junst under 93db from over 110! They had it so loud it wouldn't have been allowed to run on most tracks. He also kept telling me taking the Flowmater off was going to cost HP. Kept teiling him it don't matter how much hp it has if I can't drive it anywhere. |
Yea, it was obnoxious loud. We could hear you coming out of the neighborhood long before we saw you.
