I made my regular visit to my dermatologist. The penalty for growing up in Hawaii, and running around all the time in short. No shirt, not shoes, just shorts and a tan that was deep and brown. Now I get pre-cancerous lesions burned off with liquid nitrogen. Ouch.

I set up the next visit for Jan 7th 2021 while I was there. Entered into my cell calendar, and that is all I need. They handed me a analog piece of paper with the appointment date on it. They sent me a text message about it, and an email about it. I am pretty sure I have an appointment. My cell phone (AKA extra brain) knows so that is enough.

I just got my new pair of 1TB thumb drives.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1578434997.jpg

One trillion bytes! In a little thumb drive.

As usual with all storage media, they tend to round UP a bit. 976 GB is close. And it is a USB 3.1 drive, for a whopping $29.99. With taxes, and shipping it cost me $63.16 for a pair of them. If ya get one, ya gotta get two!

Now I will copy some data to it just to see if it is as fast as it claims.

I still remember getting my first 500 MB drive and I named it something like monster because it was so big. Of course it was replaced with a 1 GB drive and eventually a many GB drive. One TB was another giant leap and it was a several hundred dollar hard drive. Now I can carry a TB in my pocket and not even notice it. Wow.

The wasted space on this drive is 1/2 of one of my old 256K floppy discs. Amazing.

Remember running thru the kitchen one summer. Was wearing just shorts. An uncle was visiting and having coffee in the kitchen with my Mom & Dad. Uncle stopped me and said I was so dark I looked like a little nigger boy. I said nut uh and showed him my white palms. Everyone just laughed. Made me mad so I turned, made a big rasberry, mooned everyone with my white cheeks and ran back outside. Could hear my Dad laugh and tell my Uncle "He showed you."

High Life 01-07-2020 07:57 PM

My sister used to get very dark in the summer and my Grandpa used to say the same exact thing...

I, unfortunately, would just burn in the summer sun..

Well crap. A bunch of Chinese liars sold those thumb drives. They are SLOW and for sure USB 2.0 as it was going to take 1.5 days to copy a few hundred gigabytes. And the drive is just formatted in a way that is not "real" so they are not really 1 TB. I tried to format them in something other than Fat32 and that is not possible. They are junk, and they are boxed up to go back and give me my money back.

I would expect that crap from a EBAY seller, not Amazon. Oh well, my money will be refunded. I did find a 1 TB external drive that uses a M.2 memory card. That should be fast and work as expected. It was more than 30 bucks each.

Dang Chinese liars.

Porsche-poor 01-08-2020 06:00 AM

Morning all. We have a box full of 4 gig thumb drives with the company logo on them. About every other one is crap.

GH85Carrera 01-08-2020 06:04 AM

I have a few 1 and 2 Gig drives that I should just trash. I can't imagine ever having a use for them they are so small.

RKDinOKC 01-08-2020 07:21 AM

I keep my boot drive space small, 1 GB and use a 1 GB external drive to do a bootable backup of the boot drive. Also use a server to do Time Machine backups, and backup the Time Machine backup. Time machine requires at least 3 times the drive space of the original because it backs up versions of the files you are working on. Don't use time machine much, but it does save versions of files.

That's how I use my smaller external storage devices. Has saved me when a logic board died. Just booted my extra machine off the bootable backup and was back in business then got the broke machine fixed/updated.

GH85Carrera 01-08-2020 08:06 AM

I just wanted the 1TB thumbs drives because they plug in, need no external power and can hold a lot of data. With USB 3 speed, I can take several hundred GB over to my business partners house and put it on his raid, or go get files as needed.

We are going to set up a VPN for transferring files from RAID to RAID but that is going to be fairly slow compared to USB3. We can set up a transfer, and let it churn overnight. Who cares if it takes 6 or 8 hours while we are sleeping.

GH85Carrera 01-08-2020 10:50 AM

Aw man,

The wife of the mean ol boss made me go out an pick up dog poo. She does help by holding the bag and pointing out turds I missed. Now that is a tough day at work!

It does help that is is 61 degrees and mostly sunny.

Porsche-poor 01-08-2020 10:57 AM

next time tell her is better when they are frozen.

GH85Carrera 01-08-2020 11:39 AM

Yea, but that just means we are out there in sub freezing weather. For some reason I kept thinking of the Joe Walsh song "Ordinary average guy" and they were mostly hard dried up turds. It sure is easy to see that when the weather is crappy, they seem to be OK with a spot close by the doggie door. With all the good weather we have had, the far part of the yard was regularly fertilized by the dogs and that is their happy dumping grounds.

Noah930 01-08-2020 12:02 PM

I just let my oldest child go out there in the backyard and find 'em with his shoes. That I then also have to clean. Funny how dogs never seem to step in dog poo, but my oldest son (though not the other kids) has a knack for doing so.

GH85Carrera 01-08-2020 12:08 PM

We we go on pick up duty, I do indeed put on my mowing shoes. It is easier to change shoes than clean up shoes. The yard mowing shoes are kinda dirty and old.

RKDinOKC 01-08-2020 01:59 PM

Next door neighbor pooper scoops his yard and the front yards 3 houses in all directions. That way the neighbors don't mind him letting his dachshund, Penny out off leash to make deposits. He usually does it the day before trash day. Started when he had his Dalmatian.

Pepper always uses a particular area in the back yard. If it rains often enough no poop to scoop. When I play with her in the back yard, we play everywhere except for the area she does her stuff or does number six. Trained all my dogs to use that spot when housebreaking and training them to go on command.

Rescued from page 2!

We had the local region's board meeting last night. I was really happy to see some new blood. Three new guys showed up. One is now the tour chair, one new guy is now on the board to fill the slot of one of the other board members that died on us.

I would love to find someone to take over as treasurer. I have done it for 14 years now. It is a pretty easy job. It is enough work for the region that it is about all I have to do for the club.

Porsche-poor 01-09-2020 06:55 AM

Morning all. had white stuff in the rain last night. Supposed to get colder this weekend. I only have to go out shopping in Saturday and get the college boy to the airport on Sunday.

RKDinOKC 01-09-2020 08:08 AM

Not a lot of bean counters have Porsches or are active in car clubs. Usually the self business owner type takes on being treasurer.

When I was at the dealership the other day I noticed they had a 928 baseball cap. That was really unexpected. There are several 928s around town, but sure don't see them. Have even had mine show up on the facebook group Car Spotting OKC like it was rare. Sure dont get the attention in a Cayenne I got driving the 928.

GH85Carrera 01-09-2020 08:57 AM

I met my current CPA from the Porsche club. It is a long time member. His 74 Carrera was stolen and he ended up just cashing it out. He has a Boxster S now.

There is at least one other CPA in the club. He comes to breakfast, and he had his 993 at the dealer event for the new 992 introduction. He just is too buys to be on the board.

The treasurer job for sure does not require being a CPA. Just honest and smart enough to use a computer.

Haha

I have a healthy colony of dung Beatles living in the lawn to do that job. They'll demolish a barkers egg within the day it's laid.
