If I rotate my chair I'd be looking out a window to the front yard. Not much going on out there.
|
I can rotate my chair and look north out a window, but the view is mostly the Bradford pear tree in out front yard, and the grass around it.
|
My work office has no window but I can view any security camera I would like.
My home computer station is in the basement with a window into the garage. If I turn 180 I see the seating area for the TV/Projector home theater stuff but can't actually see the screens. I did replace the 50" monitor with three large curved ones. |
Our old office building has no windows at all. None. Just a steel box building. If we wanted to see the weather we had to go to the front door and look through the glass foyer, or open the back door.

Exciting. Mail server barfed nigh before last. Most users had to delete and re-add their accounts to their devices. Some I had to talk thru step by step. Drove to Moore yesterdy and got another server with 2.8 i5 16gig and 1TB SSD, $500. Replaced server last night with new box, it was about time anyway. THEN...Early this morning internet died. Didn't get it fixed until 1:30pm. Sheesh. Cable company had to run a new cable from the box in corner of my yard to the house. Seems copacetic. <-- Does my stroke make me use this word? Somehow does not feel like a normal part of my vocabulary.

For a while our mail man was a friend from HS that was in band. When I found out it was a friend would let him in the house and get him something to drink and/or maybe use the restroom. Penny, my first golden would open the door, and sometimes would open the door and wait for him to come around the garage to meet him. When his route changed she ran out to meet him and was surprised by the new carrier coming around the corner of the garage kicking and hitting her with the letter bag. I saw it an Penny was sitting on her wagging tail with a big golden retriever smile when the new carrier started kicking. Opened the door and she quickly ran into the house. Never once growled or barked at him. I told him the last carrier was a HS friend the she liked him he always pet her and came in for a cool drink or to use the facilities. And as far as I was concerned he had no business being a mail carrier. And to just remember if he is thirsty or needs to use the facilities to please not knock on our door. And if my dog sees him try to relieve himselt anywhere near this house or yard my dog can easily open the door, run out, and bite him. And I might just let her. After that incident, every time that mail man came by she would bark at him from behind out screen door. She never opened it. When his route got changed Pepper didn't bark at the next carrier and he told me about my friend telling about my friendly dog (so that other carrier knew and was an arse). Told new carrier he was welcome and only had to knock and I or the dog let him in to a cool drink or use our facilities. Within a week Pepper was going out and meeting him as he rounded the garage. Penny was such a smart good dog! |
We seem to have a different carrier all the time. Sometimes in a US mail vehicle, often a private contractor in a regular car. Non have been very good. They often drive past our house and ignore the flag I have up for them to pick up mail. We go for several days with no mail, and then a bunch of junk mail stuffed in the box.
The box is on the street, so all they have to do is open the box from the vehicle. My old house was in a neighborhood built just afrer WW2. The box was on the porch, so they had to walk the route. My old doberman was a lover of people but hated the mailman and cats. |
Our mailbox was on the porch at our old house that my friend was the carrier for a while. This house is an elevated box next to the curb. We basically have had the same carrier guy. If one of my goldens ran up to his mail truck filling my box, he would talk nice to her and give her a milk bone. Caught the mail man feeding her some potato chips one time. He laughed and said he didn't like that brand. Think they were those dill pickle chips. Surprized my dog liked em.

Got my sweeper back this afternoon. The beater bar head was clogged up an someone kept trying to use it until the belt that runs the beater bar burnt up. Costed me a whole $22 dollars American. So not only did the maid clog it up by not raking up the hair first (as instructed) she kept trying to run it until she burnt up the belt and then told me it was broken I needed to get a new one.
I have both a hair rake and one of those dust busters on a stick to pick up the dog hair before vacuuming. Use one of them so can trash the hair and not fill exspensive vacuum cleaner bags with dog hair. Depends on how much whether it needs raking or dust bustering. The maid that worked here before my mom died, myself, or my SIL's daughter had not trouble doing it right. |
Have a front porch and outdoor lights on either side of the garage that are dusk to dawn. The blubs are some kind of two prong LED thing, not screw in but otherwise look like regular bulbs. One of the garage blubs burnt out, I just received the new bulb today. Looked and it is dusk, but still a little light out. The porch light has come on, but not the garage lights, yet. There seems to be no way to test them since there is still light enough they don't come on yet.
I've looked at replacing the switches with timered wall switches so they would go off at midnight and come back on at 7am. That would work so they only came on from dusk to midnight and 6am to dawn (winter). So they wouldn't be using elecricity from midnight to 6am. BUT since they are led bulbs it would take almost 5 years to save enough money to pay for the timer based switches. |
There are some that would say I don't really need lights on either side of my garage. The is a security light betwee my drive and the neighbor to the west of me that the neighborhood pays for. It lights the whole cudesack turn I am on. But I like it and the garage door lights for visitors.
There is also a security light in the NE corner of my yard. It dimly lights the North and East sides of my yard. I tried to turn it off it is $10 a month, but the neighbors on the north and west sides of my house give me enough money every year to pay for it. The two neighbors to the east of my back yard have had me shade the light so it does not shine in their back yards. The south side has a dusk to dawn light over my side garage door. But I only turn it on when I am out there at night. It would shine in my south neighbors window. I have no windows on the south side of my house. So that is the only dark part of my yard at night. I am a nice guy, so it would seem. |
It got dark enough while I was making the above post that the new light came on...Yipeee!
It's the little things. |
I am going to head to my garage to install the new stereo in the EL Camino. The Din 1.5 will fit better than the 1 din with adapter, it looks period correct and will be readable with my sunglasses on.

Does the new radio have bluetooth or do carplay?
I like that calls come in and let me answer speakerphone on my Cayanne radio. It also lets me make calls with my iphone then car pick them up with the speakerphone in the Cayenne, Haven't done anything to set it up, the car just sees the bluetooth qnd works. It is supposed to do carplay too, but have not set it up. Heck, I Havent even set the Cayenne up to operate my garage door opener. |
Yep, it does all that. I will not set up the phone calls. Don’t care about that, but I could.
|
I didn't do any setup. If I dial abd start talking on my iPhone, the radio's music turns off and the raido puts a button on the screen to talk and hear over the stereo. I guess it is just recognizing a bluetooth phone in the car. The same thing happens if someone calls my phone. It turns off the music audio and provides a button on the touchscreen to answer the phone.
Again, I never programmed the radio for my phone. |
Yea, I can pull in my phone and run the music front the radio, or make phone calls if I attached the mic. I just don’t mess with doing that, as I don’t care to make a phone call from my car.
|
Found on facebook a box that puts the USB connction on bluetooth for all the carplay stuff. Not just phone and music. Like Maps and Waze. The best seems to be siri so can have it do stuff voice command. It's called carplay2air.

Look on Crutchfield. They know what fits the vehicle, and have the installation kits.
This is what I installed. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_068NYM4/RetroSound-New-York-M4.html The manual for it sucks, but it was about like all the other stereo installs except the face is in a separate box, and has to be mounted, and a cable run to it. It is Sirus ready, and has many features I will never bother with. I just want a stereo that plays my thumb drive of my music is random order. |
Morning all. It was a hot one here this weekend. We didn't hit the predicted 100 for Sunday but it was way to warm for me.
