I went to see my dermatologist again this morning. Only 5 spots zapped so less than normal.
Of the many specialties in the medical field dermatology is likely the least gross. I can't imagine why anyone would want to be a Proctologist or a Podiatrists. I am real happy there are those that chose that profession, but yuck. I am certain a dermatologist has to see some really gross skin cancers, and skin issues, but nothing as gross as working with rectums all day long. Pediatric oncology has to be one of the worst possible to get through. The kids that are in remission has to be great, but dang the bad cases have to rip your guts out emotionally. I guess there are no jobs that don't have down sides. |
morning all. Lots of work yesterday. Not sure yet about today.
|
Construction is nearly done on the new part here so all the IT stuff is ready to go in. Lotsa work today and next week.
|
good luck and don't let the "well it was working" imps get to you.
|
"Well it was working"
What did you do? "Nothing" You didn't plug it in and the battery went dead. We have lots of those stories. We have some pretty tech savvy people and some that, well, aren't. They aren't the older ones either. |
The mean old boss let his wife order me around again this morning. It was 35 degrees outside and I "got" to go out in it and rake up leaves and twigs. The city finally came through and picked up all the tree debris so the major limbs are gone. The left the leaves as they are kinda hard to get with a grapple hook. The operator sure tore some turf up. There are some big holes and divots in the yard. Not much to be done before spring. I have no idea if they got any sprinkler heads.
Two bags large bags stuffed with leaves, and one trash can full of twigs. It looks lots better, but until we have some windy days and I get to mow it it will be a bit unkempt. |
We had some cold weather for the weekend, but back to mid 50s for the week. That will be nice.
I binged watched the Amazon series Britannia yesterday. There is just season one. I doubt there will be any more as it was a bit weird. Great scenery but just too much mythological BS. Just shy of dragons and wizards and witches level. I have no problem with watching that, but they tried to overlay it with the real history of the Romans invading Brittan. I was hoping to see something a little bit historic, but outside the fact that the Romans invaded, there was not a scrap of reality. Oh well, it was entertaining on a blood and guts level. 2 stars out of 5 rating from me. |
Morning all. Mostly dry Saturday and Sunday so I got the outside Christmas stuff brought in. I'll let it dry fully this week and then box it up.
|
Mornin' all. Start of another week. Might take the 19th through the 22nd off. Maybe snowboard with the kids one of the days.
|
What, you mean actually go and get into and onto snow on purpose????
Just keep it up in the mountains where it belongs and I guess that is allowed. ;) |
I presume every state has their own setup for getting the Covid shots.
In Oklahoma everyone has to have their own appointment, no provision for couples. Since my wife and I are officially in the geezer age group, we are each eligible to schedule an appointment. We each registered on the web page the state set up, and it did indeed send out an email that we can then try to get an appointment. There are no appointments anywhere close. The demand is very high. So Mrs. Carrera has been watching for a spot to open up. She came hustling in my office and we had to both go online to the same location and request the same appointment time and do a countdown and GO. We managed to get in at a location 90 miles away and for the same 15 minute window. So at least we can do one trip for this round for the two of us. The news was saying the site had tons of hits on the first day and has been swamped ever since. The amazing part is it has not crashed, and it withstands the demand. So we get to have a nice drive along I-40 to Weatherford to get our shots. |
cool. no clue as to when I can get a shot.
|
It is a 200 mile round trip, and I am certain we will stop at some R-66 cafe for lunch. I was really sad to hear one of my favorite little restaurants closed forever due to the virus. It opened in the late 1960s, and had authentic American food. They were famous for the chicken fried steak. Some of the waitress had worked there for 20 years or so. I used to live just half a mile from there and I ate there often.

Lots of places are closing. We order out for delivery twice a week and make a point to order from local places but its not enoungh.

It may be a fun drive to Weatherford with cross winds. They are predicting 40 to 50 MPH gusts from the northwest so a headwind going out and a tailwind coming home, but at a 45 degree angle. It should be fun. We may want to take the Macan just to keep wind noise down. My old 914 was almost unaffected by cross winds. It was so low to the ground, and very little cross section. I remember once the CB radio was full of the truckers complaining of the cross wind, and I was extra careful not to be along side one any more than necessary to pass. I saw a few truckers pull over due to the wind.
I felt no cross winds at all, and could drive with one hand on the steering wheel. My 911 feels it more with the rear engine, and it is a lot taller than a 914. The El Camino does OK, but the windows are frame-less so the wind noise is pretty annoying at 75 MPH and a 40 MPH headwind. |
Morning all. Lots of reports of power out here. So far all is well at the home office.
|
We had some pretty nasty wind on Dec 23rd. Coming home from Madison the MPG readout on the van was 2-3 less than average. Got home and the power was out. They had it back up and going in less than an hour from when it went down.
Sunny and 38* today though. Wife reported our internet was down for a bit this morning. She works from home so was not amused. |
Long ago when morning radio was funny the station I listened to would have "short skirt warnings" for the downtown area on windy days. With the winds blowing much at all the tall building would funnel the winds to crazy levels. They always advised for skinny people to carry rocks in their pockets to avoid getting blown away.

Sounds like the rock weather reports:
rock cold - its freezing rock warm - its sunny rock wet - raining rock white - snow rock moving - windy rock gone - pray |
My dad said that when he landed at P-Y-DO International airport in Korea they used a logging chain as a wind sock.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1610557453.jpg From what I remember from his stories is it was above the 38th parallel on a little island. He said if the logging chain was blowing sideways more than 45 degrees in the wind, they would advice no take off or landing, if it was just blowing a little it was OK. It is hard to find anything about P-Y-DO on the internet. It was a secret radar and listing station. |
