My wife was cracking her whip on Saturday. We got the fountain in the front garden all winterized. The statue is off the base and covered. The base that holds the water is drained, and cleaned.

There was one more "while we are out here!" The concrete birdbath in the east north garden (yea, there is a east south garden) has a leak.

So I get to tote the solid concrete basin of the birdbath to my garage and put it up on my workbench. So today I got after the crack with a Dremel and a cutting disk and cleaned up the crack. I have a tube of concrete calk and I smushed it down in the crack as far as I could get it to go, and smoothed the surface. I told her it has a 100% money back guarantee to last until the water is put back in. It may hold a while, but I don't see it lasting long. The crack is still there on the bottom side. Water will indeed get into it, and then freeze, and the crack will get wider. What do I know about concrete crack repairs.

Morning all. Its Tuesday and that means trivia after work.

GH85Carrera 11-07-2023 06:23 AM

I got the wife's Macan washed yesterday afternoon. It was 76 degrees with a perfect breeze. Good car washing weather.

Porsche-poor 11-07-2023 06:37 AM

You could not do that here. I don't think it made it to 60.

GH85Carrera 11-07-2023 07:26 AM

We are already at 73 today.

I spent some time in the garage and wiggled and played Gumby and got under the dash of the El Camino to get to the cruise control module. I replaced it, and cruise works again at lower speeds, but on the highway is surges. I suspect it is my speedometer cable, or the speedometer itself.

After driving for 30 minutes at 75 MPH I can hear a faint squeak squeak from right at the speedometer. The cruise control reads a rotating wheel that is part of the speedometer with bulb gizmo.

I will have to dissemble the instrument pod to get the speedometer out, I can then replace the speedometer cable and lube the speedometer itself. If the squeaking is gone and the cruise works I will be happy. I bought a replacement speedometer cable years ago, but never replaced it, as lube was enough last time I had an issue. I want every component of the vehicle to work as designed, or way better from my upgrades.

Today is gonna be a long day. Mrs. Carrera is going in for surgery.

She has a tumor on her Parathyroid gland. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parathyroid_gland

Actually we all have 4 Parathyroid glands and just one of them has gone haywire and making her blood calcium way high, and stealing calcium from her bones to do it. The high blood calcium has a very long list of side effects and she seems to have them all.

There are only three surgeons in all of Oklahoma that do the surgery, as it involves cutting into the neck, next to the vocal cords, the major arteries going to the brain, and other kinda important stuff. It is hidden behind the thyroid gland on the back of the windpipe.

The weird thing (one of many) is that within 5 minutes of removing the tumor and one of the 4 glands, blood calcium drops back. If it does not drop back down, they go looking for the other ones. So remove it and do a blood draw seconds before it is cut out, wait 5 minutes, do another blood draw and test both samples. They expect to see the huge drop in levels.

She had 9 tests done in one day a couple of weeks ago and we were at the hospital for most of the day. They combine all the imaging together to find the tumor, so they know which one is the problem.

In some cases they have to remove all 4, and they use the best looking one to dice it up into pieces, and they insert it back in your forearm. So if gets another tumor, it is easy to remove and treat.

We are hoping it is just the one and all goes well. Some patients have almost no discomfort, and are fine right away. They have a room reserved at the hospital and we are expecting them to keep her overnight if blood calcium levels drop too far. I will come home to take care of the dogs, and go fetch her in the morning. I will be up there all day today. Her surgery is at 11:30.

I was going to NW Arkansas for a large Porsche gathering and driving the fun roads. She said I could go anyway. I can see it now, every one of my friends will ask where is you wife. And I reply, well she had surgery yesterday and I left her at home with the dog sitter. The dogs love the dog sitter because they get a lot of treats, and she promised no dog treats for my wife. Yea, not gonna happen. I have been married too long and I know better.

Morning all. Hug Mrs. Carrera for me. Let us know later how she is doing. Glen you have my cell.

GH85Carrera 11-08-2023 12:07 PM

The tumor is out. Her blood levels went from 152 down to 47 and that is perfect. Now just wake her up and we can come home tonight.

Porsche-poor 11-08-2023 12:25 PM

Great news. Now make sure the boss knows so he can tell her no more gardening for a bit.

GH85Carrera 11-08-2023 12:30 PM

She will just be pointing and grunting for me to do it!

Porsche-poor 11-08-2023 12:56 PM

well then you are a keeper!

GH85Carrera 11-09-2023 05:35 AM

We got home last night at 5:30 We had to drive up I-35 from Norman to Edmond during rush hour. I just can't imagine doing that twice a day 5 days a week. No accidents, and traffic moved along from 30 MPH to 50 so not real issues except the few idiot drivers tailgating and changing lanes constantly.

The doctor prescribed two medications but the pharmacy we use closes at 6:00 PM. I called him and he was meeting his family for dinner. I asked he just call me when he is done with that, and I went to the drive through and got her prescriptions at 9:15 PM. It is nice to be friends with the owner and he has some great employees.

Porsche-poor 11-09-2023 06:15 AM

Morning. Hope all is well for you both.

GH85Carrera 11-09-2023 06:25 AM

She is up and around, and out of the shower and feeling a bit better. A sore throat from the breathing tube, and a sore in her mouth likely from the breathing tube.

They had her hooked up to a heart monitor, and failed to get all the sensor pads off. I found tow of them on her last night as we were going to bed. They left a gooey residue on her skin. I told her I had some lacquer thinner in the garage that would clean it off. She declined that and we used some skin so soft stuff that did a good job.

She is in the recliner, and has two dachshunds in her lap to help her heal.

Porsche-poor 11-09-2023 06:44 AM

The best thing for her pup snuggles. Yeah those breathing tubes are a mess.

Porsche-poor 11-10-2023 05:49 AM

Morning all. Fun weekend ahead. I get to repair the garage door opener mount.

GH85Carrera 11-10-2023 07:21 AM

Sounds like fun David.

The door we use the most is the single garage door for my work bay. I had that one changed to a wall mounted unit that just turns the shaft. No chains or long screw that rattle and are noisy. The wall mounted unit is really quiet. And it allowed me to raise my cars up higher on the scissor lift.

Porsche-poor 11-10-2023 07:25 AM

I just need to put in a longer 2x4 header for the mount above the door.

flipper35 11-10-2023 12:47 PM

Ours is just a couple inches below the ceiling so it wouldn't save much space. The outside garage I would gain some space though.

Problem is, I don't have a lift of any kind!
