I have been checking out side trips for the journey out. Maybe drive out of the way a bit to visit Truth or Consequences, NM just to get a photo of my car next to the sign of city name. Amboy, CA maybe for a photo in front of the gas station. One side trip to the Palomar telescope, and I am driving right past the Very Large Array and have to stop there, just cause.

I can't wait for the photo uploads then.

GH85Carrera 02-01-2023 09:47 AM

Yea, Joshua Tree National Park is another side trip I want to take.

Porsche-poor 02-01-2023 09:51 AM

Sounds like a fun trip.
We were looking at a week in HI then later in the summer a trip to Germany. Might do one, might skip both.

Good album to!

We have been below freezing for over 100 hours now. That is more than enough. Today we break out of the freezer.

I will likely start a thread about my trip through southern New Mexico, and ask the brain trust for help finding places to see. I am not taking a vacation day there, just passing through to Palm Springs. Southern NM, Arizona and that part of Cali have some interesting places to see that are just not part of the interstate system.

Porsche-poor 02-02-2023 06:58 AM

Morning all. We are at exactly 32 this am. Should go up from there to almost 50.

GH85Carrera 02-02-2023 07:14 AM

My wife was telling me about a TV news report. On 1-40 out west toward Weatherford, a fatality accident caused the interstate to be closed for 10 hours. That had to suck for thousands of travelers, and some family is grieving. There was a thin sheen of ice on the roads and houses this morning briefly. It is all melting off now and we are at 32, and up out of the freezer.

flipper35 02-02-2023 08:56 AM

We are at 24* right now, but hit a low of -11* this evening. Only 8* tomorrow but above freezing on the weekend.

Wonder how Pete's weather is.

GH85Carrera 02-02-2023 09:09 AM

Same old same old. Cold and snow as normal I bet.

My nephew lives in Tabernash, CO. He is really happy they got another 2 feet of snow. He loves playing on his snowmobile. He makes money plowing the streets in his area.

And yea, my nephew is the one with the red beard.

pete3799 02-02-2023 09:52 AM

It has been a very mild winter. Not much snow (10 inches on the ground right now).
Yesterday morn. was -7*. First time below zero so far but forecasting 6 below tonight and 20 below for tomorrow.
Just checked and there is a wind chill warning in effect for 30 to 40 below .

GH85Carrera 02-02-2023 10:09 AM

Pete, I think even you might admit 30 to 40 below is a bit nippy.

Porsche-poor 02-02-2023 10:16 AM

30 or 40 below stuff falls off.

flipper35 02-02-2023 02:53 PM

Well, I got a call today and was offered a position at a place I started applying at over a year ago. When I first applied I found out an offer had been made when I interviewed and I was the backup. Second time I applied was just a few weeks ago. They still remembered the interview from a year ago and brought me in. They had two positions and let me pick which one I wanted.

No more long nights out of town doing training!

The devs here and other workmate are really awesome people and I will certainly miss them. They are basically a startup with no experience doing a startup and the direction they go varies from day to day. I would have been more interested if I were young as I can see where they have a great deal of potential, once things are sorted. They need a real project manager and a software architect that knows the software. They have one that has tried to do project management but they have him doing 4 other jobs as well, some not even to do with what our team does. The architect I am not sure about. I don't see anything changing with him.

Porsche-poor 02-03-2023 06:59 AM

Morning all. Over 40 today. Supposed to get cold again next week.

GH85Carrera 02-03-2023 07:06 AM

Good deal Brent. Enjoy the new job.

I get to play tech support with my business partner. Back in 2015 when we started building the the first computer to do our data processing I built a mean machine, for the time. SSD drives were expensive if they were much over 500 MB. His computer has been running fine, but we want to replace that old drive just because it is old, and fix it proactively.

I am off to clone that drive to a new 2 TB drive.

flipper35 02-03-2023 08:03 AM

Yeah, the SSD have a finite number of writes so being proactive is good. I think those very expensive 500GB SSD drives back in the day go for $35 now.

flipper35 02-03-2023 08:03 AM

Oh, it was -8* on the way in this morning. Some of our team decided to work from home. Wimps.

Joshua Tree has some great roads. Wide open sweepers. But also no landmarks to indicate where exactly the road is going.

It's within a National Park, so I'm not sure I want to get caught speeding by a federal park ranger. Then again, it's pretty desolate.
