Afternoon all. Well the doc called the ctscan/blood work a medium win. The ctscan says things are stable with a few items getting bigger and few getting smaller. The blood work confirms more spread which is typical I guess with this type of cancer. They will keep up the current chemo for now and see if it stays slow growing. If not they will change things up and we try a different route.

Good luck David.

I was having fun in the garage with the El Camino. The plugs and wires have been in place for way too long. Likely since I swapped engines 87,000 miles ago. The old plugs were put in by a really smart guy, (blush) and antisieze was used. They were in there tight, but came right out. Well at least the driver's side. I am replacing the spark plug wires as well. That is the hardest part. Tomorrow I will do the passenger side, and that is easier except for the very back against the firewall plug. The driver's side has the steering column, AC and power steering pump, brake master cylinder and other stuff in the way. My back said enough. Time for a beer.

So far just 4 bandages and several new arm bruises. The dang ninjas keep attacking and I have to block their punches and kicks with my arms. My arms bruise with just a bump or scrape. My grandmother, dad, and brother have or had the same issue. Genetics, and too much sun exposure.

We received 1.26 inches of rain today. We are way above normal rainfall for the month. No one except the people living in low lying areas and along the creeks and rivers is complaining. No flooding here. We live on top of a hill.

David, I guess a medium win is better than no win?

I made an offer on the Cayman that was $4K below asking. I cited the work that need the get done like tires and clutch and the higher than market asking price. He met me halfway at $28K which I can do. Next step is talking about trade-in of 2006 MCS.

Instant update: market prices are very low for high-mileage MINI, surprise surprise. He would give me $1k (which just covers the four new tires) and take it to auction. Time to start putting out the feelers…

Porsche-poor 04-28-2025 05:30 AM

Morning all. Off to see a cardiologist today then who knows what at this point.

astrochex 04-28-2025 06:42 AM

Hope the visit brings good news David.

Got service estimate for Cayman PPI issues and getting maintenance up to date. A little higher than I hoped for and I can't imagine what a dealer would have charged. I sent the estimate to the household Minister of Finance for :D approval.

When I went for my test drive, the oil pressure gauge was pegged at 90 PSI. Crap, that meant the connection to the oil pressure sender was not connected properly. Of course, it is next to the firewall, behind the cruise control vacuum module. I can just see the edge of it with my phone.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1745858481.jpg

I tried everything to push it on further, and gave up. I had to remove the cruise control vacuum module, and replace the push on connector. New connector in place and all is well with the gauge. I can only assume the connector to the wire was bad after many years and getting bumped into with the plug wire replacement by that incompetent mechanic.

The screws on the back of the cruise module have almost no room to remove and replace them.

All done, and all systems are working. I did get the passenger side plugs and wires replaced with no more bleeding wounds on my arms. :D

So I am a Porsche owner again! :D The title has been transferred and funds have changed hands. The car is still in Longwood however, as the shop won't be able to take it until next week. :(

Last choice I have to make is tires. The two options I get from Tire Rack for 19in wheel diameters are Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 Plus and Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4. I have had good experiences in the past with both brands.

GH85Carrera 04-29-2025 04:59 AM

I have had both the Michelin and the Continentals. Mine are summer performance tires, not all season. Both are very equal. I would have stayed with the Michelins, but the size I need were out of stock, so I went to Continental. Both do great in rain, and on my cross country drives, I always have some rain. I have had them in freezing conditions, and they get rater hard until they warm up some.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1745931438.jpg

I just drive it like it is not a sports car until the tires warm up. For real winter weather, with ice and snow on the ground, yea, you want all season tires.

Jay Leno says that the Michelins always seem to take less weights to balance the tires as they are very round.

astrochex 04-29-2025 05:47 AM

^Great shot!

Was that on one of your expeditions?

Porsche-poor 04-29-2025 07:56 AM

Morning all. Boy I'm jealous all these car pictures and mine is all but sold. Can't drive it anyway. Glen next time you go you head this way and take me for a ride. LOL

GH85Carrera 04-29-2025 08:24 AM

David, Porsche Parade as you know is just 12 miles from my house this year. Lake Placid next year. They will announce the location of the 2027 Parade at our parade this year. The 2024 parade was Birmingham, AL and the 2023 parade was in Palm Springs. They like to move to various parts of the country. I bet the 2027 parade will be in the northwest part of the country.

Paul, yes that was shot was in Eureka Springs, AR in November.

I have driven my 85 911 to 41 states and Canada. It has been snowed on a few times, it has been in 0 degree temps and up to 118 in Needles. CA. And lots of rain showers. In Utah, we were on an open range and had to stop as the herd of cattle was on the road. After they finally moved on, I had to drive through genuine fresh, bull crap, and it got on the car thrown up from the tires.

GH85Carrera 04-30-2025 05:44 AM

Wow, more rain!

We are already breaking the record for rain in April, and it is still coming down! 12.5 inches for the month now, and climbing. As least no lumpy hunks of ice falling here. The lakes are all at capacity, and the flood gates are open. There are boater warning out on several lakes for floating logs and debris from the inflow.

astrochex 04-30-2025 07:21 AM

We had brief showers yesterday, but we're still way under normal rainfall levels. It cracks me up when they have a desert dry lake bed as a background for the weather reports.

Have the Cayman insured. Costs less than the older MCS!!!

Porsche-poor 04-30-2025 08:14 AM

Morning all. Well the grandkid finally gave the wife a cold on his last visit. Now I have to tread on thin ice around here. Never a dull moment.

GH85Carrera 04-30-2025 01:22 PM

It looks like 2 inches of rain today brought us up to 12.95 inches for the month. Tomorrow is supposed to be clear.

astrochex 05-01-2025 06:27 AM

To show how myopic I was when I test drove the Cayman, I did not pay attention to all the options.

I knew it had Sport Chrono from the clock on the dash but I didn't know what was all entailed. Turns out I hit the jackpot as Sport Chrono is a performance option with a Sport mode that changes throttle mapping with pedal position. The car also has PCM, the entertainment system upgrade.

I get chills thinking how lucky I am to have the wife let me do this and that the car is perfect for me.

GH85Carrera 05-01-2025 10:42 AM

Congrats on a good purchase. Sport mode is a lot of fun. Does it have launch control as well?

I broke down and put new tires on my El Camino today. Well I had them installed. $733 for a set of 4. I looked in my little notebooks for the first set of tire I had put on and it was $241.00 out the door. Of course that was in 1993, and the tires are far better now days.

The old tires were at the wear bars. I could have driven them for another year, but I just don't like worn out tires in the rain.

Porsche-poor 05-02-2025 09:23 AM

Morning all. So far so good I have not caught the crud. Which I'm not sure where that would land me in the long term of things.

astrochex 05-02-2025 10:31 AM

Glen, launch control is only available with PDK.

Still dry here, but we may get some much needed rain soon.

Yay to no crud!

GH85Carrera 05-02-2025 10:45 AM

Yea, I prefer crud free as well. Kids are great at bringing it home to families. Stay crud free David!

Paul, whoops, I forgot you have a manual gearbox. Doh!

The PDK is just an amazing transmission. If I was forced at gunpoint to get rid of my 85 911, and replace it with a new Porsche it would be a hard decision to go manual or PDK.

One of my local PCA buddies has a fairly new Cayman, and on a road trip it kept popping out of gear. When he got back home, he took it to the dealership, and they drained the transmission oil, and there were lots of sparkling flakes of metal in the oil.

They ended up doing a full transmission swap and luckily for my friend, it was done under warranty.
